i cant remember exactly how it works, been a while since ive had a car with an AFM, something along the lines of the afm has a sensor that heats up or expands as more air flows through thus creating a current which the ecu reads and allows the corresponding ammount of fuel to be added. cant remember exactly but pretty sure its close to that

ive owned a number of sr20 & 18 powered cars all with pod filters, have never had a prob with the airflow meter, and they are very cheap, can get second hand for next to nothing. all sr18de/20de/20det AFM are interchangable, think even ca18 ones are the same however dont quote me on that keeping origional airbox and panel filter makes the intake alot quiter (intake of a screaming sr20de once vvti kicks in is wiked!!!) not sure about power differences but factory airboxes are generally classed as restrictive, air intake as i mentioned earlier has just the pod filter with no restriction and is blocked from engine bay heat, best of both worlds (in my opinion)

they have air flow meters

i used to have a s14 silvia.... how much money are you willing to spend? things i done were, 4-2-1 extractors, 2.5 inch exhaust from extractors with a resonator and rear tip. Remade the air intake, got rid of standard plastic intake, got steel/alloy (cant remember) intake made up to follo path of standard intake and instead of pod filter in engine bay i got the pipe to go through body of car to where standard air box holes went and pod filter was outside engine bay. (hope you get what i mean) intake sounded wiked!!!!! made car go alot better, sounded nice but not too loud, be careful with the sr20 motors, if exhaust is not made properly (eg too big or not enough resonators) sound stupidly raspy and terrible!!!! 20-40 hp gain in a na car can be quite expensive, once intake and exhaust done get car dyno tuned, pretty sure the silvias can get their ecu's remapped. reasonably cheap to get done, no where near the cost of a link. made it go a bit quicker, cant really expect too much from a n/a car, also upgraded suspension and brakes, made it sit alot lower, ride ALOT better, silvias have natural great handling, all i done was got new shocks and super low springs, managed to get a really good deal, front strut brace aswell. really stiffened up car and handled a dream. If car is 4 stud you can get the 5 stud hubs from s15 silvia and some s14s and they have bigger brakes, uprated pads is all i done and made a great difference id recomend adjustables, totally transform a car, but even the superlows i had in mine were reeally stiff and handled great, sat nice and low (but not too low) let us know how you go, would love to see pics (silvias are still my fav cars)

yea pretty normal procedure for a mechanic to take car for a test drive to diagnose a problem. Realistically how accurate can a mechanic diagnose a problem based on what a customer says without finding out for themself. And just remember mechanics drive hundreds/thousands of cars for testing etc itl be fine and if anything goes wrong they have insurance The wheel rings are legal, they arnt spacers that are 100% illegal just help line up the mag onto the hub, i have them on my car and have never ever had a hassle. and the guys who do my tyres do my WOF's aswell

i had both, nz new bluebird import s14, primera If anything the bluebird reacted better to higher octane fuel my old 1994 s14 silvia compression ratio - 10:1 1999 spec s s15 silvia also 10:1 (both naturally aspirated)

big displacement making up for a small........ them luxury exotic cars nice, make kool noises go fast etc. but waaay outa my price range so not my cuppa tea. jappas definatly my cuppa tea, cheap, reliable, make huge power for such small displacement (well some) Most jappa naturally aspirated cars will run sweet on either gas, higher octane=cleaner burning, more power, more economical and more expensive, u basically get what you pay for (except for petrol in general its just expensive full stop) i always run 98 where applicable, small motor + big turbo + high boost = very important need for decent fuel and along with that a good tune to match to stop from detonating causing. But back to origional question i have owned many sr20de and sr18de vehicles all run sweet on 91, but higher octane definatly better, with a small noticable difference in power and economy I would love to see more of this car, 300 hp at wheels in a 2.0l na car. thats dam impressive for a na car, even for a honda!
-
i used to have a s14 silvia, ran fine on both 91 and 98. motor was still sweet, compression tests etc ocnfirmed that. only thing i noticed was 98 had a wee bit more power and a tiny bit more economical

We have a pretty big game of paintball coming up in Kawerau 22-23 November, gunna be over 50 ppl playing, is a wiked course to play on, both long range and close range combat depending on your style of play. skill ranges from really serious with top end markers to young kids with cheapos, come along have a few beers and have a blast, course is pretty much across the road from the Kawerau mill, directions etc can be given if interested. There is no gear hire, only bring your own markers etc, but air/co2 is available and paint can only be purchased from the organiser on the day http://www.paintballnz.co.nz/forum/viewtopic.php?t=302&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0 follow url for more info We play on the course almost every second weekend for free if anyone else interested, the more the merrier. We just play social games for fun, anything from capture the flag to defend the fort, flag in the middle etc etc

ive found that my guppies at around 20-22 deg produce mostly females, around 95% females but the males that come out are always really awesome ones. But my albino guppies arer at around 25 deg and also producing only females...hmm must be something in the water lol
-
i have a 30l tank full of guppies RIGHT next to my jewel cichlids tank, they are purely bred as a source of live food for my jewels. the jewels are always going crazy at the sight of the neighbour guppies. livebearers that breed like rabbits make excellent sources of food if u ask me. I DEFINATLY recomend it. I swear my jewels get more colorful after each fish they eat.
