  1. HELP! Last night i released my 3 male and 5 female Notho's into my new 30l tank which is set up specifically for breeding. Ive had tank cycling for about a week, doing water changes every night and last night before i put the killies into their new tank took out almost all water from the tank and filled it up with water from their old tank, checked ph, set temperature and then transferred my nothos into their new tank, floated bag etc then released them. Everything was going fine, fed them some blood worms and a bit of flake and they ate it alright. Just woke up and went to check the tank, 2 males and 3 females were dead at the bottom of the tank. 1 of the males kept loosing his balance and turning upside down. My last 2 females seem to be doing alright. Has anyone experienced this or could maybe tell what has gone wrong. The tank temperature is 22 degrees, ph of 7, has a few plants, unsure of names. Has a carbon filter hooked up to air pump for bubbles.
  2. Ok thanks for that, i will have a go at making one tomorow when a wool shop is open
  3. have been searching the net and found a very interesting website, very useful and simple to follow instructions on how to make a spawning mop http://www.aquarticles.com/articles/bre ... g_Mop.html
  4. I am in the process of setting up tanks to breed killis for fun and am very new to it. I have one tank set up for Nothobranchious Korthause yellows and is getting along great. My next tank setup will be for some Australe golds, i believe they are mop spawners. What does everyone use for the mops? and how can i make them or where could i buy 1 or 2 Thanks
  5. I have just set up a 30l tank for breeding killis, this seems to be alot bigger than is required so i am considering dividing tank in half. Has anyone got any ideas on what to use? Im prepared to do anything, as long as it works and isnt too costly. Any ideas much appreciated Paul
  6. yeah thanks for that. I spent a good 10 minutes comparing the 2 and eventually found the missing female, i noticed that tho notho females seemed to be a lot broader than the chocs, also had a longer top rear anal fin (unsure of proper name of it) , also the nothos seem to have whiter bellies and very plain in color whereas the female chocs seemed to have darker spots and darker bodies. Well that is what i observed. I currently have 3 male and 5 female nothos in one 30l tank, will be getting some peat tommorrow if the garden shop is open. Will be interesting to see what happens.
  7. I have recently had all my killies in one community tank along witha few guppies and neons etc, however i have just setup my third tank 5 minutes ago(has been cycling for abouta week) specifically for breeding Nothobranchius Korthausae yellows, however i now have one small problem, how do i tell the difference between Australe Choc females and the the Notho females? Any help much appreciated Paul
  8. Does anyone have any hints on where to get small fish tanks from, I live in whakatane and am always looking on trademe for some small tanks so i can start breeding. However finding suitable tanks at the right price seems to be quite hard to do, and then of course it has to be within reasonable traveling distance. Can anyone help me out, such as glass shops that will make up tanks for cheap, or shops that can get in small tanks for cheap. Any help much appreciated Paul
  9. Hey guys have just signed up as a member. Im 19, living in whakatane and working as an accountant Ive been a fan of fish since i cant remember and bought a tropical setup as soon as i could afford one. I currently have 2 tanks: One is 350x350x650 with 2 bristlenose and one pleco. 4 neons, 3 male and 2 female guppys. 9 Killifish - 1 Male P82, 1 male & 2 Female Aphyosemion Striatum, 1 male and 2 female Australe Golds, a male and female Nothobranchius korthausae. I think i have the names correct One is 600x300x300 with 2 bristlenose, 5 platys, a rather large angel fish and 2 male dwarf gouramis, also 4 plain looking tetras with an orange stripe down the middle, cannot remember the name. I have a number of different plants, got no idea of the names, also filters, lights heaters etc, got no idea of names/sizes etc but they all do the job good. Im reading through everyones forums learning bit by bit and have definatly caught the fish enthusiests bug. There are so many fish that i would like to breed, mainly the killifish because of their awesome colors. If anyone is in the whakatane area and has any old/unwanted tanks etc id be interested in hearing from you, as i have a massive garage and would like to start breeding some more fish. Or if you breed fish yourself or have fish for sale would be nice to hear from you as getting new fish is always great fun. Cheers Paul
