  1. It might have had a big bubble in it - that will stop them.
  2. Yep - take it out until you have finished treating him (read the instructions on the bottle), then put a new lot in to mop up the remaining medication - remember that most treatments continue for a week or so AFTER you can no longer see the white spots (because you still have to kill the free swimming ones that hatched from the white bits). Good luck
  3. Anti-mates have it as a Eheim spare - 'Spetzial Fett' or something.
  4. You'll also have to use new carbon at the end of the treatment cycle - chuck the old stuff out.
  5. There will be all sorts - there are some nice 'flowey' green tentacled zoos down there at the moment - ask John to break off a frag (let me know how much you pay )
  6. It won't disappear instantly - they have a 10-14 day lifespan. Most treatments work by killing the free-swimming stage which you can't see - you have to wait for the white bits you can see to burst before they can be killed. You should have started with a big water change, then followed the instructions on the treatment - if you didn't, do that now.
  7. As soon as I've managed to get a few little populations going in other parts of the tank, the originals will be going back for sale 'on behalf', so keep an eye out...
  8. I coaxed that Flame Angel back to life - it was in a similar state when it arrived, but I took a chance and it seems to have come right.
  9. One note re the little holes - the let the stink-gas out :-?
  10. No, definitely go for fresh - and smell them before you feed - if they smell odd, chuck them out.
  11. I've never actually done a cost comparison, but I suspect they work out cheaper than the bagged stuff anyway - plus I can eat a few too
  12. Supermarket fresh shrimp works prety well, too.
  13. If they sit on a Liley pad talking about feelings, they are female.
  14. I wouldn't stress too much at this point. If they start exibiting other symptoms as well (like rapid weight loss) then you have a problem, but on its own it is more likely diet, in my experience.
  15. Try feeding bloodworms - it might simply be too much processed food giving them gas (literally) - don't forget that fish also control their boyancy by releasing gases from their swim bladder out through their vent (bum), so don't stress if you see the occassional bubble. Their gut bacteria might also have been upset by the treatments you have used. A few bloodworms will help clear out their gut.
  16. Transformers! More than meets the eye...
  17. No, but be aware that apple snails can cross land - try the ramshorns first.
  18. Bracing works fine, but personally I like 'open top' tanks so that I can slide lights back and forth, put tubes where I want them etc - but you have to make the strength up somewhere, I guess.
  19. Bigger fish will eat smaller snails - they may also eat the eggs from time-to-time, but they'll never get all of them.
  20. They have probably already laid eggs, and so long as there is food they will keep breeding - expect to see some eggs by the time you are home, and tiny babies in a week or so.
  21. You might be able to fit a couple of Angel Fish in there (2 - preferably a true mated pair), but I wouldn't put in any more than that.
  22. I've made another couple of little mods that seem to make the skimmer run better. At John's suggestion, I've drilled two 2mm holes in the lid of the skimmer cup (through the centre moulding marks) so that the air-pressure doesn't stop the bubbles travelling up the flute, and I've also shifted my Phos-ex bag to the downstream side of the skimmer to try and keep the water level high in the skimmer chamber (it dropped when I removed the bio-filter bag), so we shall see how it goes now. I can also report that the 'cooling' fan option is useless. It has no measurable effect - far more effective to just leave the front flat open. Anyway, more news as it comes to hand...
