  1. Thanks a bunch I guess it all turned out for the best!
  2. I'm happy for them to breed rapidly! We have large goldfish in our pond which will give them a run for their money I just don't want to use chemicals to get rid of the stuff Thought I'd give the snails a go Thanks for your help It has been greatly appreciated!
  3. Yes actually they do but black with tiny weeny spikes I treied taking a pic but they are too small to get a good shot
  4. They have medium sized wide side spiral black shells Some have long spikes, some have stubby spikes When I say long spikes I mean only just 1mm or 1 1/2mm They have long antennas They are fast moving I have seen a couple walking on the water, upside down (so that they're "foot" is facing the surface) but when I go near it it makes itself sink quickly
  5. Don't worry the thought did cross my mind but it was quicklly squashed by reason! The only way I can think of describing it is its like a ramshorn except the horn has unravelled out to the side. It isn't like the malaysian trumpet snail. The spikes are what have me baffled!

    Snail help!

I have two ramshorn snails. One red and one brown. I am trying to beed them so I can chuck them in my pond outside to see if they'll clear the algae (don't worry the fish will take care of the majority of them so I won't get overrun) I put them in their tank today and bought some oxygen weed off the petstore. An hour after I had set it all up with the water, the two snails and oxygen weed I noticed a baby snail....then I noticed another one.....and another! Problem is they are not ramshorn and I have no idea what they are! They hitch-hiked with the oxy weed They are black, conical shaped shells. A couple have small spikes. One of them has a light stripe spiralling with his shell. I can't find them on the net Can anyone help me!
  7. Thanks Wilson! I'll keep my ears open for any croaks during the night. And I'll be sure to keep an eye out for any lily pad confession
  8. We have a large fish pond outside No matter how hard we try it ALWAYS goes green! We have 7 quite big goldfish Would they eat the larger adult apple snails? I don't mind em eating the babies and eggs (population control I guess) I'm trying to find a chemical free way of controlling the algae
  9. Thanks for the quick reply! Odd question: Do goldfish eat ramshorn snails?
  10. Hi all!!! I recently got two ramshorn snails, one red one brown. I'll probably come to regret getting them at a later date but ah well. To prepare myself I would like to know how quickly they can breed etc. Also how often to they breed? All I can get off the net is that they are egg layers and are hermaphrodite, but I can find nothing about their breeding habits. Can anyone out there in the vast expanse that is New Zealand shed some light on this for me?
  11. Hi all! I'm new at this, it is my first post. I have two 2inch long golden bell frogs. I've had them since March when I got them as froglets. I'm trying to sex them but can't find any details as to the difference between males and females. Can anyone help me with that?
