Is the tank in the sun light? It could be causing regular bacterial outbreaks. Make sure you don't clean you filter media under tap water - it will kill the good bacteria that keep the bad ones in check.

Yep, that's why they struggle to get enough to eat when they are with more aggressive fish like Angels.

Some things like Silver 'Sharks' can grow quite large - no sure about their temperament, though.

If you don't want to use meds, all you can really do is raise the temp to 30, and do massive daily waterchanges as soon as the white spots start hatching out - and keep doing them for at least 10 days after the last one disappears. Or use meds.

Try increasing the circulation in the tank, feeding a little less, growing live plants, and adding some Siamese Algae eaters

Err... not an Oscar - they will eat any other fish that they can get into their mouth. Adult Discus look pretty good and are relatively placid, but in general big fish eat smaller fish

FYI - don't rush to see Redwood's latest shipment. Apparently (Someone who shall remain nameless) hasn't got around to putting most of it out, and you aren't allowed to view it out the back, so we'll all have to just wait until he does, I guess. Maybe this weekend, maybe not - who knows? :-?

Just use a bit of food - you just need to generate a bit of decomp - food will do it better than fish.

Yes - I personally don't like, use, or recommend Melafix. The Diet sound good (although I'm not sure about the brine shrimp) - have you checked the Nitrite and Nitrate readings?

Yes, check the pipes, or add an airstone or 'powerhead' pump.

There are some other unusual bumps on its face too - it might be early signs of Hole-in-the-Head (but I don't think so), or else some sort of localised infection, or tumors. Do the mandatory water checks, make sure you are feeding a vitamin rich varried diet, and if it worsens treat with Furan2.

Unless you've introduced infected fish, you really don't need to treat for flukes. Most Adult discuss support a small population of them without problem - it is only when your fish's immune system is compromised by other things that the population increases that they become a problem.

I've kept Discus and Chain Loaches together for years - no problem at all. Probably just coincidence, but you could perhaps put in a biggish plant or log for the Discus to hide behind / feel more secure.

Algae won't harm your Discus directly, but it points to less than ideal water parameters. You might need to change the water more often and perhaps increase the amount of circulation in your tank.

I think it was probably localised contamination - there were several mains lying next to each other and the old water supply was lucky to be 6psi - that was the reason they replaced everyone's mains along with the street main (which was broken by a row of huge tress - I live opposite a park). Either way, I'm happy that the phosphate is gone, wherever it was coming from.

Why don't you contact the local RSPCA? A lot of people grow tired of Turtles (they are A LOT of work) and set them free. You can probably get a Red Ear for free.

Why? If people want to breed Rams etc. them they should buy their own fish and learn how to look after them to the point that their fish breed. If they can't do that, then they probably don't have the skills to raise fry very successfully.

Because they cost more to raise than they are worth, and I already work a full time job :lol:
