  1. only ever kept youngsters before, i know you can't catch any undersize quota fish and then keep it in a tank but i thought if it is legal to take and eat, then should be okay to keep alive in a tank got to build up the food stock in the tank for when the sharks arrive 8)
  2. i've got a couple of legal sized snapper wanted to know if they are legal to keep? anyone got any ideas on their growthrate as well?

    good idea heir but you would need to do a lot of paperwork to get consent to do it bit like guys trying to get a lisence to commercially fish for koi in the waikato

    local doc office have access to an electric fishing boat should talk to them about cleaning up the pond and replacing with something else are the ponds man made and landlocked or natural and flowing to a stream system and if a stream does it flow directly to the sea sorry for the questions
  6. about 20 years ago a friend had a bluetomgue in a 4 footer, withh really fine sand, it died. the problem was not so much the fine sand but a combination of the fine sand, lack of good ventalation and humidity humidity had helped increase bacteria in the sand and had been inhaled into lungs and ingested sand on food bluey died of a bacterial infection in lungs and gut

  10. thanks for the post about eelgrass conch it got the grey matter ticking want to try this then will add a bigger one to the 7,000 litre tank
  11. thats a good read david, thanks that skimmer is a little honey, big pump and some fine tuning has the wet pooring out of the overflow tube was more concerned with using it to support the pods and life thats in it, trialling this then will try a 2 metre x 1 metre bed of it on the large local tank to provide for seahorse breeding has some sea lettuce in amongst it can we add caulerpa to it later?

  14. building a new sump for gannets tank, he wanted miracle mud and caulerpa, we couldn't afford that so we are going to try some seagrass instead, thanks to conch for the idea sump with skimmer 1metre x 450 wide sump with eelgrass in it eel grass pic heaps of bugs in there hope their good ones, shrimps like a glass shrimp but smaller and finer good sea horse food

  19. collect your natural salt water just before hightide, i use tapwater to achieve the right salinity i don't keep mollies or bumblebees or chromides but keep the rest i usually get my fish from snookie via jimbob
  20. without a picture or better description i would have to say they are small flying buggy things
