  1. i am not moving those aros again until i get a bigger tank. so it will have to be observation and pulling out the eggs i now know the behaviour that precedes the egg laying so will just have to pay attention the geo brsiliensis were the main culprits so might try catching them working on a miniature speargun to shoot them with
  2. thanks for the heads up love the signature
  3. they tried to ban palms as well, stirred up plant breeders so they backed off pet shops should be upset as this will slow down sales of related products the "experts" they used on the palms were cting studies done in hawaii to justify banning some species in nz.
  4. couple of pdf's off the web listed below that might explain the auckland ban if you have a look there are more reptile species on there as well you aucklanders guys need to be contacting the local councils and talking to someone http://www.arta.govt.nz/shadomx/apps/fm ... teName=arc http://www.rodney.govt.nz/services/Pest ... t-Plan.pdf
  5. letting it go is not an option for either the environment or the possum permit and tb testing is required to keep it, it can be a carrier even though it seems healthy
  6. at the size this one is a 3 footer will hold him for a while (6 months) bigger ones are a real problem they like to dig under things and are incredibly powerful, collapsing stacked rocks, digging up U.G. filters etc they can push lids off tanks, so some heavy weights are needed i think from memory a 3 foot octopus can manipulate himself through a 3 or 4 inch hole an octopus is very intelligent and can suffer depression in a fish tank and just give up and die, that is why the younger you can get them the better they settle to tank life
  7. sorry wasp thought you were talking about the big pool the small rockpool has part of the flow from the filter running through it the anenome live on the tideline and at full or lowtide they are open while the waves are smashhing them they close up have seen them regurgitate the shells of paddle crabs, they open up in the rockpools and wait for things to walk or swim into them, they open up to about the size of the palm of your hand
