  6. hi ron welcome to the forum thanks for your response i had an outside tank for a few years and found like you that fish like to hide part of the problem was them feeling exposed to predation natural instinct was to hide i found that the more plants and cover i had the safer they felt covering the back and sides i feel made the fish feel they were near a river bank it is hard to strike a balance between what is best for the tank inhabitants and best for human viewing are you able to catch fish yourself locally during the whitebait season?
  7. how deep was the water? got given a large rock that had come up from a deep trawl, there was a small cray similar to that in a crevice

  14. sorry got busy and forgot about it the operation was a success but there was some nerve damage and circulation loss to the end of the wing this necessitated amputation of the end of the wing meaning the bird couldn't be returned to the wild luckily it looks like the wellington zoo may be able to offer the bird a home to live its days out

    Slug

terrestrial gastropods no longer have gills, they use the inner surface of the mantle as a lung this must be kept wet at all times to allow gas exchange to take place so a slug could breathe underwater
  16. as smidey said he kept young angels in a smaller tank any fish whose adult size is too big for your tank can have their growth restricted by being kept for too long in a small tank so as the fish grow you will have to look at getting a bigger tank or selling the fish on i think most of us have started with a small tank but found as the fish and the passion grow so do the tanks and their size
  17. that upgrade didn't take long
