  1. matter now of people putting there hand up and saying i will help if i can picking a group of fish, david and henward had wanted to do polypterus navarre had mentioned aulanocora
  2. the hardest and most costly part of any application is the research to back up why the fish should be allowed in and will not become a threat to our ecology in the future you could spend your money and time and still be denied
  3. reef mooted the sum of $2,000 earlier in the thread spread around a few interested people it wouldn't be much each working on fish similar to ones already on the allowed list would be easiest and hopefully more successful once the application has been done once it will provide a template for further ones
  4. that is why it is called a society that is why a lot of things don't get done it takes a lot of tolerance to other peoples opinions to get a diverse group to achieve an end result
  5. don't take it personally, it was not meant that way you can't make people conform to your expectations of the way they should behave we need to take into account that while we may be passionate about certain aspects of the hobby others don't really care or latin names may be beyond them maybe if shops started listing the latin name as well on their fish might help to educate some people the fnzas as jennifer has stated is made up of members doing things on a voluntary basis an some aren't as passionate as others do as much as you can at filling out the form then email it to others on here who are interested in helping, so they can add to it reef has had some experience with this get as much of the form done collaboratively between passionate people then forward it to the fish committee
  6. a disagreement on the short changing of .2 of a litre
  7. like life there are all sorts of people in this hobby and to the average hobbyist the Latin names are just gobbledegook
  8. beautiful fish in the flesh photos don't do them justice as they move they change from white to a pink sheen then a blue sheen all depends on how the light reflects off them i think
  9. and while scientists are undecided about where a certain fish belongs how can maf say yes or no
  10. that is a pity the ones who expend their time and money should be allowed 1 shipment before others can apply to bring them in already have those
  11. good idea, it could be funded by those who will most gain financially from the import of new species perhaps a small surchage on each fish could recover any outlay for them i am sure hobbyists wouldn't mind that to get new species in their tanks not a lot of money for the importers to all chip in but it may be hard to get them together to form a committee
  12. i think the designer had too much of the smoke machine
  13. thanks, was lookin for your thread viewtopic.php?t=39179
  14. glued poly together with no more nails place i usually buy cemix at has changed hands so trialling this stuff fine mesh coat mixed with water and 15% resin to a slurry and painted on poly with a paint brush
  15. we have to start somewhere and some of the newbies will be the experts of the future
  16. Jennifer not one of those replies  more of a start the ball rolling one:wink: most people don't know where to start we need to get involved with the local club and enthuse the society from within
  17. got the foam from a specialist building supplies glued with no more nails, sanded and painted with acrylic house paint over the cemix cemix product was for coating poly, not quick patch from memory cut to be a tight fit in tank, could be siliconed heat gun may have made poly too smooth for cemix to stick?
  18. you provided a link to the application form david have you done an exercise on filling it out for a species you think would fit the bill for rapid assessment these need lots of research and references to back it up, then someone with qualifications after their name stuck on it
