  3. Trademe is the best iv found. $80ish. Local electrical wholesaler cant get bulbs over 3000k. Im doing a order for 4 bulbs that are 150w of the person on trademe so they are doing a better price. You and other could jump in and we could get better prices. Also try the petshops, they can get them in but at what price?
  4. I could get 2 40L tanks..... Could either have 2 different species in each tank...or just use one tank for the older fish and one for the young?
  5. Not sure on tank size as its a friends. 40L or so Im not sure what else i will keep in there...a small fish to clean up and maybe some WCMM
  6. My tank i will be using will not fit one large convict. So looks like guppies. Do they eat the fry? Can i mix a few species in one tank?
  7. With guppies and other do the adults eat the fry? If so what species dont?

    Changing tanks

Im wanting to change my 300L to to a new one. Im going to a sand substrate from small rocks. Im using a fx5 as my filter on my existing and new tank. Im concerned that if i change substrates in the new thank their wont be the right amount of bacteria in the substrate. Could i put the old substrate in a bucket and place it in the tank for a few weeks so i dont have to cycle? Im also putting the drift wood into the new tank, so it would have some bacteria on it. I plan on having 4 datnoids, 1 bichir and 2 hoplos(could be a oscar as im selling him)
  12. I add minerals to the water every week
  13. I had some random ph jumps a few weeks ago(oscar didnt look well at all)...so i did a water change(water is neutral ph) and it decided to spike the next day...put some ph down in and since then its been fine. Any ideas on what could have caused it? I havent changed plants, fish, wood or rocks in months

    PMDD Info

No HCL. People can add it once they get the mix. I have never had a problem with fungus. I do treat my jars in boiling water before putting the mix in.

  19. I just make a new one and throw out the old

    PMDD Info

The below is from http://www.thekrib.com/Plants/Fertilizer/pmdd-tim.html But, to get started, for each ten gallons, try around 1/12 ml of PMDD a day (roughly 2 drops). A 29 gallon tank would then get 1/4 ml a day (roughly 6 drops). If you don't do many partial water changes, dose less. If you have a "high tech", densely planted, CO2 injected, VHO lit tank, you might want to double the dose to 1/6 ml of PMDD per 10 gallons a day (roughly 4 drops). Just make sure you keep an eye on the Nitrate levels when using PMDD. Personally i try and keep it around 5ppm Nitrate. If over dosing this can lead to algae growth and other implications
  21. I just did a 50% change on my tropical with the cold hose and the temp only gets down to 20c. My tank is 300L. My fish dont mind it
