  1. i think HFF in Albany is either getting, or can get browns. Not 100% sure, has been a little while since i last asked.
  2. He did mention that his discus tanks were going to be looking bare due to "a buyer" lol They look nice fish ^.^
  3. Oddball tank = WIN! Sleeping for free in the "rough" Christchurch or Dunedin (for living)
  4. Warm. Nelson Lakes National Park.. Or, Abel Tasman National Park. (Trying to decide where to go for a holiday..)
  5. . I'm hoping to pick one up for sub 150, wonder what my chances are then
  6. 6 lousy freaking dollars US? I hope like hell that they are bred and not wild caught, as that would be doing horrible things to the native habitat
  7. How to treat it? i suspect my fish have it, JUST after doing a water change
  8. I'm looking to get a Birchir to add to my "community" tank (Its not really...), are there any smaller types avaliable, and if not, how quickly do they grow. Also, anyoneknow of any pricing & where I could get one? How well would the mix with clown loaches, pantadon, BGK, peacock eel, and a few silver sharks? Fully planted tank, with added driftwood.
  9. I think they have one at Jansens Glenfield. I suspect i'll be adding it to my collection asap.
  10. Swimming. - Is the fish easy to catch, or does the salesperson break up a bit of a sweat? When you place your hands near the top of the tank, do the fish come up and expect food? Any "mould" like substance appearing on any of the fish in the tank? Any dead fish in the tank? Fish gasping for air? Erratic behaviour for that type of fish? One fish slower than the others? Clear eyes, milky eyes, missing eyes? Marks or scratches. A big list. Ask the salesperson how long the store has had the fish in question. Fresh arrival, or been at the store for longer? Also note, that a lot of fish are highly likely to get certain diseases - Clown Loaches & Ick for example, and while they won't show signs at your LFS, when you take them home, they may get the infection. Not a big deal, easy to handle.
  11. Yeah, i'm thinking 4^2, and screws + inside angle bracing.
  12. I'm thinking about making a dual tank setup - 1x 6^2^2, and underneath, a 3^1.5^1.5. Making a solid wood stand, panelled with marine ply. And when i say underneath, i don't mean a sump, i mean viewing tank, thats permanantly lit by moonlights - ie, a night tank Possible? Too heavy? Ideas?

    Hi

Clowns!@ A heck of a lot of clowns!.
  14. also, if you get one, try and get some plants to within about 3 inches of the water surface, and pref. in its favourite corner, as it needs a place to sleep
  15. Is she heating the water first - Using a jug, or hot water tap? Could be copper?
  16. Comedy. More annoying: Brother or Sister
  17. hum, fish are colouring up a bit more now, also the loaches are hiding in the same hideyhole as the knife, nfi how they all fit in there though... Now that the fishes are more used to each other, they are playing a lot more, which is good. Is it possible to add anything to the tank to give the fishes more to "play" with?
  18. Too cold VISA or AMEX cards
  19. Okies, i'll get them more hiding places on Wednesday (payday ^.^)
  20. I don't think its the BGK, as its too small, and all the fish are small, so its not overcrowded yet. I'll get some more wood and plants, see if they calm down.
  21. PH is currently around 7.2 Nitrite and Ammonia are both 0, Nitrates are very low due to waterchange Black backdrop, "Dusk" or "Brightwater" gravel depending on Jansens or HFF, temp is currently at 28ish, due to whitespot, *which is improving*, and none of the fish appear to be fighting. All fish in the tank are small, so i doubt its overstocking.
  22. They have been getting worse, just done a water change, but they have always been really skittish
