Don't worry about hijacking my thread, this is good information. defaintly want the Egyptian Mouthbrooders or Southern Egyptian Mouthbrooders now. I think I will sell all my guppies and go cichild and pleco.

I was looking not for the eating type action but rather were mom opens her mouth and all the babies swim in at a great rate of knots. Looks like she's sucking in a big cloud of babies.

Okay, I would like a pair of mouthbrooders. Something not too big, say 10cm - 12cm max. Not too aggressive. And a kind of mouthbrooder that spits out the fry for a swim and when there is trouble sucks them all back in. Any suggestions??

Okay, The eggs are on an ornament, maybe I'll put it in a small tank at the end of the day and hopefully the eggs will start hatching over night or next day. Should I put a drop per litre of meth blue in? Should move the female with the eggs?

It is day 3 now and no fry. Still lots of olive eggs with a dark spot in the middle of them.

Try getting some BN's from a local breeder/hobbyists. You may have better luck with them. -
How long does it take for the eggs to hatch? I have a female guarding a clutch of eggs, in a community tank. This is a first time mom, and she is doing a good job of it so far. Not sure how she will get on when the babies are free swimming.

My vacuum has a one-way valve, I just shake it up and down in the water and then the water starts to flow.

umm, ammonia ?? Buy some from the supermarket and dose the tank to 4ppm. I think that is right. Try goggleing fishless cycle or something. I have not tried it myself. Normally I just get filter media from another tank and clean the media in the new tank. Right or wrong, that's what I do.

If you buy a new filter, can I have yr old broken one. I like to fiddle around with broken stuff.

Might have to do a few modifacations to the lounge to fit that one in. I am sure the landlord won't kind.

Try putting him back in after a week or two. He would have lost ownership of the tank and be the newbie in the tank. He may not be aggressive after reintroduction.
