I had a oscar in a 50ltr tank. Both nitrites and nitrates were off the scale in 3 days. I suggest only two oscars and lots and lots of filtration. Maybe two cf1200's or evailant.

Got some fry swimming around. Wondering how to grow infusuria. Any help please. I have seen it at the LFS, but at $10 for a small bottle seems too much.

Also noticed that they like hanging around the the top water. This will make it easier to net them.

Thanks spidersweb I throw in some corgettes and some potatoe peelings and a bannana skin. How much organc matter are you putting in the water. And what about water changes? Regards Chris

Finally got some daphnia. really cool looking crttiers. Wish I had a magifying glass to get a closer look. I was wondering, what is the population growth rate on this critters? Got them in a 500ltr dark green plastic water tank. The water is cloudy.

Just wondering WHY the vets don't like giving it out. Thought it was a worming drug. Why do you need a script for worming fishor other animals?

Your tap water may have high nitrates. Get a nitrate test kit and test the tank and tap water.

Pop-eye (exophthalmus) Normally caused by poor water quality. Correct water qaulity/chemistry. Recovery may take several days.

Some cement dyes are metal oxides. Black (iron oxide). Best to check the dye compounds for toxidity.

I have noticed that my mitrate levels are not going above 5ppm, without water changes. If they stay at that level do I ever need to do water changes? My tank is heavy planted. there are so many plants that I can not vacuum the gravel. Thinking about employing some corys to do the vacuuming for me.

I have recently heard a story where a guy buys cat food biscuts, grinds them up and uses it as fish food. The guy is saying that the tradional fish food and cat food biscuts are made of the same stuff. Can anyone confirm this story as true? Regards Chris

I dosed the main tank. also when I did the water change I dosed the new water. I did that for three days. But do note, I am only a newbie. It would be a good idea to get advise about formalin from more experinced members. Also note, the main reason for me doing a twice daily water changes was because my nitrites were very high.

Have tried doing a dose of formalin. Some of my fish had the same simtims. All is good now. Plus also 20% water changes daily or even twice daily.

Just wondering, how long can a canister filter be turned off before you start getting bacteria die off? I often use the filters inlet pipe to remove water for the water change.
