  1. I just removed my magnetic ballast/wiring from my metal halide, i could take a photo and show you how everything gets wired in together?
  2. I'm sure you could find a hinge that will work with those doors
  3. An oven won't be hot enough for clay, you might need a kiln
  4. I was snowboarding at Whakapapa on Sunday, very nice weather. Going again on Friday :bounce:
  5. I just looked at the background and thought "who's great idea was it to make caves and tunnels?"
  6. I'll give that a go, they only come out to eat in the morning and evening so hopefully they'l swim in and eat the prawn
  7. I need to catch 4 clown loaches and its near impossible trying to net them as they spend most of their time in a small tunnel in my rock background or in cave :nilly: Any ideas on how to catch them? I can't scare them out of the tunnel and its not very easy to get to
  8. The salty smell comes from gunk in the filters, clean the uv filters intake sponge. I had two UV LED internal filters and they would create a salty smell whenever they got a bit dirty.
  9. wish my twisted val would take off like that
  10. maybe there is air around the impeller? Also the impeller still sitting on the plastic rod like thing? if its not on that properly it won't spin.
  11. spent 5 minutes saying haititai :rotf:
  12. I hack into mine with a screw driver levering up each corner :an!gry pretty stupid design flaw imo
  13. Can you try remove the top after a weeks use? my 2400 is a mission to remove
  14. If they still smell bad after rinsing in cold water then i wouldn't use them, But basically all they are is a surface for bacteria to grow on - should be fine to use.
  15. with my 2400 i found out that there is a plastic collar on on pipe around the motor housing, has something to do with sucking the air out with the out going water. If you still have trouble make sure that the piping is above the cannister itself so air can naturally rise out of it
  16. Position the heater near the intake to your filter, best way to keep the tank warm is to have good heat circulation
  17. my first tank never had a light, i just left a small gap in the curtains to let a little bit of light through. Back to the cleaning, the point im trying to explain is that if you disturb the substrate too much the bacteria that are in there won't funcion very well and if something went wrong with feeding or if a fish died it would be far more worse than if you did a simple clean + water change. If your going to use an auto feeder then you will probably need to use a flake or granular food designed to work with what ever feeder you use, so I would recommend you start feeding the fish with the food that they will have later when your on holiday and see if and how much of the food they eat and adjust the amounts accordingly.
  18. yes one of those, I have two, one rattles (an inconsistant rattle at best) and one doesn't
  19. I have an HPM timer that rattles quietly too, its rated for much more than i have plugged into it (30w t8 light). Personally I would recommend PDL switch gear, alot better quality than HPM
  20. Cleaning the hell out of the tank before you go away is not recomended in some of the books i've read, you end up disturbing the bacteria population which is not what you want when you have people who have no idea about fish keeping watching the tank.
  21. petshops get glass from wholesalers, if you were to do the same it would be expensive because you wouldn't get a trade discount
  22. I was talking to an owner of a petshop in town and he reckons that the fx-5s aren't very good, apparently the computer chip is because of a design flaw - not meant to be a feature (due to the construction/design air gets trapped in the motor head, thats why they have a chip to tell the filter to bleed the air out) Also thought it was a bad idea to have that much flow in a filter. But I've only heard good things about them on this forum, and its one of the best filters out there at removing large amounts of fine particles in the water - thats why i want one
