    BN caves

Can he successfully trap a female in there if it big enough to turn in ?
  2. Have you got air bubbles in there, if not can get one in there and oxygenate the water. Temp- have you got another thermometer to check up on first. Are any fish dead?- check to make sure there aren't any dead ones around-it could set off a spike if it big enough. That would be enough water change for time being I'd say, you don't want to shock them too much the other way. good luck

    wrong place,sorry
  4. Cheers! for the links -yep know them well. And I do think that page along with a few like it a valuable tool. My point is that common names seem to be almost be invented or misappropriated. Scientific names aren't as emotive but save a lot of confusion, particularly in the yellow/Orange colours Ryan calls firebird A.Rubenscens and I have seen what looks for all money like a Rubescens or at least a Maleri derivitive sold as firebird. yet in the states it's a common name for Hansbaenschi, and A jacofrieberg variant in Australia. I've see Sunshine referred here as Baenschi again as Ryan has noted yet I was under the impression it was a common name for Maleri and have seen it described as such. Same with yellow peacock-I've seen both baenschi and Maleri with this name on TM and shops. Royal blue has lasted here yet we aren't quite sure what A.species it is.Stuartgranti Mbjeni has Regal or Royal blue as common names and is a good guess, but.. I know there is an argument for the importers not correctly ID ing them, or not supplying such namers. but there does also seem to a carte blanche(sic) approach to giving imports a common or non scientific name which might sound cool but is often done so blindly andwhich is going to make it bloody hard to avoid hybrids particularly amongst those colours.
  5. Rubbernose- could you post some pics. Snowball as in hypancistrus sp.L102- then I think there are a few still floating around, at least there were a couple of yrs back, but no-ones owned up to them.
  6. It's numbers- 4&5 which raised the question. I've heard the firebird called both "hansbaenschi" as in the States and Jacobfrieberg in Europe( along the lines of Eureka), yet we have adopted Maleri or more specifically the line bred red versions of it for this name. I've seen and heard Sunshine describe both Baenschi And Maleri here. Now I've been told that Ruby red, Rubins Red And Rubenscens are all seperate yet I Thought them to be The same fish- Rubescens the line bred Maleri developed in Holland, imported bu P.Rubins into the states hence 'Rubins'. then named Ruby red as well. As for the Dragons blood/red prime/ Auloncara makeupaname-??
  7. Was having a chat yesterday with a another obsessive but far more knowlegeable peacock lover like myself, and we were talking commmon names for peacocks, which leads to my question. What scientific names are you putting to these common names and are any doing the same job-ie: two more common names for scientific name. Might be a silly question but The confusion between the two can cause problems between species within the genus as much as variants within the species. bewlow are 10 common names, and I'm interested to see what scientific named species you think each belongtoo. eg. 1( red shoulder)= labidichromis Caruelus 1. red shoulder peacock 2.blue peacock 3.lemon jake 4.sunshine 5.firebird 6.Blue orchid 7.ruby red 8.German Red 8.Gold Hybrid 9.Rubenscens 10. Yellow peacock I'm mostly interested in the possble confusion and possibilty of hybrids within the yellow colours. I see more than a few peacocks whose common names don't seem to corrolate to scientific ones. Give your first instinct answer rather than surfing the net.
  8. I had a little plastic castle cave, and nothing happened then put in peice of bamboo with an inside diameter of 4-5cm after reading something somewhere. Might be coincidence but had a spawn within days.
  9. How old are they?- I guess from babies it was two yrs before mine bred, or that I noticed. What is your cave?

    Sajica

a couple of cms I would have thought. I have a few coming up to that size and a bit of behavior and fin colour would give me indications. The small ones need lots of hidey holes and are quite timid for a young cichlids, they also seem to like hanging out under floating plants .
  11. Fine although if you're talking your tank with 2 pairs of dwarves then things might be interesting

    Sajica

Hey Keri -Anne They are a great fish eh? I have mine by themselves athe moment but they are a great little cichlid for a community tank, One of many: http://www.aquahobby.com/gallery/e_Arch ... sajica.php I put a vertical rock at one end of the tank to section it off and thgey made a nest behind and at the base of it.

    demi eaten

Probably had a mauling after it already died. More likely at 3 mths a young male big fella didn't like
  14. At the moment I have fry or holding females of; Archocentrus sajica-fry Common Bristlenose-male on eggs L136 hypancistrus pleco-eggs and fry Demansoni-fry and holding female. Copadichromis Azureus fry and holding female Chilumba red flush fry Rubenscens female holding Yellow lab fry Jacobfrieberg female holding Chocolate Cichlids are house cleaning Guppies and Platys always
  15. South American killis??? :-? Venezuela. I'd say you 've got enough in there at this stage. And with the dwarfs and plecs and the territory they'll want do you want geo's down there as well? larger Tetras ? Then you can look at the more docile cichlids. It would be tank boss though.
  16. Very cool. What sex is it in- male? That would help eh?
  17. From the cover of Woman's mags to an off topic thread on a fish forum. Is this a gauge of Ms Watons current media profile- then scratch up some cash and organise an appearance post by her, stalkers pay double.
  18. How big is the tank and how feasible is it to get them out. you could try collecting and putting into a fgry trap. I'd be tempted to leave them in there, especialy if you have some good hidey holes like a buch of smallrocks and coral for them to hang out, feed them coloubits ground up a bit. They sre not going to be actively hunted as they are with those tankmates- might be an opportunistic snack thats all.
  19. and how dominant or recessive it is, a numbers game
  20. I'd be happy enough with a couple of pairs of those blue labs .
  21. http://www.cichlidforum.com/profiles/re ... ?genus=105
  22. So which is the live food in that scenario
  23. http://www.cichlidforum.com/profiles/sp ... hp?id=1377 http://www.cichlidforum.com/profiles/sp ... hp?id=1313 I guess an issue with fishstock here is understanding what line you are breeding. If you're talking Africans. With the origin unsure, in terms of colour or location variants- you're breeding based on the fish itself rather than the known traits of a known line. We probably have more chance of confusing the line with 'inter variant' breeding. So it's a bit of a blind line isn't it
  24. Keep lights on during day, there are things like flourish etc to promote growth. Get the odd longer lasting plant( more expensive ones) to add to the others so when the cheap ones putter out or get a bit ropey they will grow up the the space
  25. Clown Loaches live probably in excess ofr triple the time period you're talking and I've seen a school of 20cm ++- in Asia. They wont outgrow 120ltr for years. Need to have a group, same for Khuli's Dwarf chains stay smaller and also eat snails. I have angelicus loach which seem also to be slow growing. Harlequins are great mid level option- they will hold there always Tiger barbs-need numbers that then tend to take over, and nippy.I'd Flick them now for the sake of tank harmony IMO Rams- Agree, get the tank sorted and settled- need minimum 1/2 mtr of tank bottom for a pair . Maybe a heavily planted area of the tank.
