  1. Sorry I have no idea what it is unless the fin has been damaged or torn by something in the tank or another fish.

    tank mates

I'm happy to give them tank mates that will mix in well, I don't want them killing each other. Have looked up one of the ones you listed but don't know if we can get it over here, will have to find out.

    tank mates

yep Caryl, thats why I'm asking . I want to put some other cichlids in the tank but have been told that they aren't suitable, that the kribs are not aggressive enough.

    tank mates

I've just acquired a pair of kribs (thanks Jo). They are in a 100 litre tank with rock caves and driftwood. What sort of tank mates do you suggest. Do any other cichlids go with them or do I need to look for something else? Any help appreciated.
  5. which fin are we talking about (side fin?), you mean the one by its gills?
  6. seems to be a lot of that around at the moment!
  7. See what it looks like after a day. Quite often the fungus peels off fairly soon after applying it. See what it says on the bottle (I don't have any here at the moment).
  8. Remove the gourami from the tank ( or float it in a container filled with tank water inside the tank) and treat with methylene blue. Works best if you can get a drop directly onto the infected area. Its a type of fungus usually caused by a nick or cut.
  9. What are you hatching them in? They need an airline and water around 22-24 degrees to hatch. Can you float the hatching container in the tank or otherwise sit it in another container of water with a heater in it? I found I couldn't hatch bbs in the black square hatcheries that the LFS sells in winter - try putting them in a drink bottle inside your tank with an airline otherwise (assuming your tanks heated)
  10. congratulations - you'll probably end up with 100s of them. Great fun but hard work.
  11. I soak absolutely everything including the filter wool and media in bleach, rinse it well and if I can leave it to dry in the sun. No worries.
  12. something wrong when fish look like that!! - Just joking
  13. Rubbish - IMO the only time perhaps you should go easy on live food is when you have eggs hatching and livebearers don't do that!!!! :-?
  14. my fighters don't touch my bn, they go up to have a look and nose at them but leave them alone.
  15. mine do that too, don't worry about it, the water still flows through them.

    heaters

As above suggestions, also don't place the heater straight up and down, put it on an angle otherwise the heat goes straight up over the thermostat. Heaters should be 1 1/2 watts per litre of water.
  17. excellent, didn't know if he'd still look after it. will be interested to find out how it works out.
  18. I think a filters a good thing - not too strong though as they don't like much current, find it hard to swim against it with long fins. Filters save syphoning all the time to keep the water clear. He'll thank you for it!
  19. Hows he going Jasmine - I keep hearing from people that they are having trouble keeping their new fighters alive?
  20. just wondering how you will collect them when they do hatch as they are so very very small. Is there anyway you can sort of get something like an icecream container around the area now so that the nest and father fighter are surrounded. Then when they hatch they will be contained already. It also means that nothing else will be able to eat them which I'm sure they will try to. Generally hatchings in a community tank don't work.
  21. I'm stunned that they hatched without anything eating them. Use as much water as you can from the existing tank. Doesn't have to be that deep at this stage. You can add a cup or so of water every day to raise the level. Use an air stone and put some floating plant in so when they start to nibble theres algae etc there. They won't like being moved - its best to wait until they are air breathing. Sort of scoop them up with water in a container or if you have to suction them over via a hose. Make sure the new tank is at the right temp and cover it well. Sealing it with gladwrap to keep the humidity in is good. Let me know how you get on.
  22. which fish are you going to put in it?
