  1. they generally just hover in an area of the tank. the fry usually sink towards the bottom first until they get their balance in check - this makes easy pickings for any other fish in the tank.
  2. I wouldn't go fighters because my kribs attack any male fighter I put in the tank and they are a relatively peaceful cichlid (this is not when they are spawning either!) Apparently its the colour that causes problems, they don't like anything brighter than them or so I've read.
  3. Hi Ron the bottom pic of the male tending the nest, what type is he, what is his colour called and what type/colour female have you used. The fry are looking good!!
  4. I managed to spy what looked like eggs shimmering on the ground at the back of the tank, so can only assume she has moved them. one of the bns is making a nuisance of itself though.
  5. okay, will just have to play the patience game thanks for your help
  6. It is possible they had been there longer but that was the first time I noticed the female didn't come out for food and the male was hovering just outside the cave. Tank has three tiny bns in it but thats all. Tonight the male is eating but the female seems to just be hovering mostly in the same spot, every so often she dips head down towards the ground. I didn't know if kribs could move eggs or not. She's not leaving except if the male comes over. Can't quite see what she's doing, theres a rock in the way!
  7. On Tuesday night my kribs had eggs in their cave and they were still there this am. Tonight I notice the female chasing and attacking the male in the tank. Looked into the cave and the eggs were gone. She is hovering at the back of the tank behind driftwood and rocks. I fed them but shes not eating and only moving a few inches then returning. Would the eggs have hatched yet? Do kribs move their eggs?
  8. If you have just acquired the male from a pet shop keep him in quarrantine for about 4 weeks, its something I would particularly recommend at the moment. After that its fine to keep them all together if you don't want to breed. You most probably won't get a spawn as they need to be in a tank as a pair. Think carefully about breeding as a spawn can end up with 0-300+ fry that need to be fed and males need to be kept seperated when they mature.
  9. Thanks evil, I'm going on holiday soon and didn't want to have to teach my son how to hatch bbs. Its certainly breeding season in my tanks at the moment, hmmm... might have to set some more up to take the overflow.
  10. Was doing a water change tonight on the tank with my new kribs in it and realised they weren't coming out. Shone a light in their cave and there were eggs all over the roof of it. I've only had them 11 days. How long do the fry take to hatch and what is best to feed them?
  11. hmmmm... Thanks a lot David for the site, will have to think about this one.
  12. Don't know if I've posted this in the right place. I've read that the Pantadon Butterfly is a suitable tank mate for Kribs but have been able to find next to nothing about it. Does it only feed from the top of the tank or will it eat any fry in the tank? Also does it only eat moving food i.e. insects or will it eat flake etc? What sort of surface area does it require?

    How big

Also i was told not to put much gravel in it so only has a couple of smallish piles of mostly fruit salad sized gravel.

    How big

its just over 100 litres but its pretty much square. cf1200 filter. Rocks and driftwood. Has a pair of kribs, 3 tiny plecos and one small surplus fighter in it.

    How big

Okay, they aren't spawning yet but have bred before so am expecting it fairly shortly. I'll put a sponge over it. Thanks
  16. I've purchased a couple of 2nd hand 2213s this year. Paid $60 for 1 and $75 for the other. Have seen them go for up to $100 on tm.

    How big

This is a really dumb question but how big are krib fry ( wanting to know what sized mesh I'm going to need over my filter intake -cf1200) to stop any going up it.
  18. what sort of fish? and as the others said it depends on why its stunted.
  19. Hi I put a post on lower down this page called 'attacked or... your fish could be the same, sometimes they fight and one eye develops popeye. if both do its usually bacteria. my fighter in the post only had it in one eye and the red was bleeding underneath and into her head. it healed after a few days but a week later she managed to jump out of the tank and I stood on her ewwwww....
  20. Hi, a cf500 has more flow than the power head you are currently using, filters 500 litres an hour. Don't think it would fit in your tank as has a fairly long spray bar and would certainly put a decent current through your tank. You can't reduce the rate on this filter either. I use a cf500 on my 100 litre tank which is sufficient for the size of the tank. The other filter you mention I don't know about.
  21. Quite often when a fish dies the other fish eat it, the first places they seem to eat are the eyes and the stomach contents leaving a hole where its stomach would have been.
  22. my gba (2cm) in a well planted and driftwooded tank
  23. I have heard that sometimes snails do cling to things but don't really know. Post this in the diseases sections - it will probably get more people looking at it. Someone will know more than me! :-?
