  1. Will wait a bit longer then, when I need my 4ft back I'll have to move the parents back in with their babies and see.
  2. At what size would it be safe to return my adults to my tank with month old krib fry in it - there are 40+ of them, round about 1cm+. (Am hoping you're not going to tell me they have to be big enough not to fit in the adults mouths). Theres quite a bit of rock cover and I could add more if you think it would be advisable.
  3. I use water straight from the hose, even in winter for all my tanks with no problems. No chemicals, just stick it in and turn it on!!

    bio balls

Sorry, I'm too old for movies like the matrix - thats my 19 year old sons thing.

    bio balls

Whats Matrix - my filters have bio balls, ceramic noodles, coarse sponges, fine sponges and filter wool in them at the moment.
  7. How old is he. He could be stressed, or it could be that he's getting older. Is he eating. Try holding a mirror where he can see it and if he doesn't flare at his image I would be a bit worried.
  8. Great! Your fishroom open for viewing??
  9. They are in a 100 litre tank at the moment with only their mother and a couple of 2-3cm bristlenose. Am going on holiday for the next couple of weeks so will probably take her out after that if they aren't going to need her.

    Sad day

Sadly I lost my black and green female fighter today to old age. She's been a great breeder, mother of many black and green males and a couple of females. However at this stage I don't have a female to replace her.
  11. Yep, it does go brown. If there are microscopic bugs in the troughs it should be okay. Its not the colour of the water, its what is living in it. I sometimes used to chuck some green water in from our pond but not lately - my husband thought he was helping me by emptying a tank of 'rainwater' sitting on the outside table into our pond, instead he emptied a tank of tap water and bleach into it. The pond is sure clear now!!!
  12. yep, thats what I thought - oh well, I'm getting a few more kribs tomorrow so after 4 weeks of quarrantine will put the male in with them. How long will I need to leave the mother in for do you know?
  13. To stop my female krib attacking the male while the fry were belly sliding? I moved him to another tank. When will it be safe to return him? The fry (about 50 of them) have been swimming around with mum for about 4 days now and eating off the bottom of the tank. She's already coloured up again, not sure if its because she can see the male or not (he's in the next tank). I don't necessarily want them to breed again but would like one of my spare tanks back but don't want 1. him to eat the fry 2. be injured by the female
  14. You sure its not stuck in there!
  15. never heard of siamese guppy or siamese platy fry, what do they look like?

    Cammalanus?

Can you post a picture of what this looks like. Thanks
  17. I've got all the cf filters and I can't hear a thing on any of them. I have the bio balls floating in the bottom of the filters, then the noodles and sponge in the next tray up and sponges in the top tray.
  18. Saw the fry today, counted 30 of them that I could see, just about free swimming. Had to take dad out, she was attacking him so he's relegated to a spare tank.
  19. Get some lettuce leaves and pour boiling water over them (older lettuce leaves work faster. Leave for a couple of days. The water will go slimy looking. (I always speed it up by adding a bit of pond water). Strain the water through a hanky or something similar.
  20. No sterile black female there Ron!!! Look at all of them. You must be delighted with the results so far.
  21. Just checking that you have no charcoal in your filters as this stops as meds working. I used to use salt in my tanks at 1gm per litre but don't know if you can use it with the type of fish you have.

    bio balls

Is it best to fill your cannister completely with bioballs or have only a few so they can move around. I use the cf external filters and in the smaller ones they just float under the bottom basket. Would they be more effective if the who area was packed with them?
  23. sounds like what I do in my guppy tank, its nature so let it be!
