  1. I cant remember if I have posted on this thread before but I am currently caring for a mexican red knee tarantula, a goliath bird eating taratula, a pair of rose tarantulas, a katipo, about 25 avondale spiders (and 9 babies), a white tail, 2 water spiders and a nursery web spider, I think thats it...
  2. Is it just me or are a disproportionate percentage of the members on this site metal-heads?
  3. they would be ready for wingless fruit flies from as soon as they start absorbing their tail. Fruit flies are pretty tiny
  4. the best bacteria are aerobic, so having the the media wet, but not underwater, will be the best for filtration. You can also stick a hose from an airpump in there if you want to increase oxygen levels. In all my systems I maintain, I run filter wool, media, then filter media. These are all in trays with holes in the bottom, so that the top layer of filter wool get rid of the big pieces of crap, and because it is above the media, the evenly spaced holes in the top tray means that the bio-media is all equally dampened, but is never submerged. By the way, how is the puffer I sold you going?
  5. sounds like blue-green algae. You could use erothomycin (sp?) to get rid of it, it is a pescription antibiotic. Otherwise try feeding more sensibly/water changing more, as you prob have excessive phosphates in the water. Is the tank newish? because it is a bit of a phase the tank goes through, and if the tank is newish, it should go away on its own if you keep up water changes. I would only use antibiotics as a last resort
  6. Still got some that havent been bagsed Varanophile? I know somebody who may be interested in a couple. PM me
  7. Hey guys how do embed text onto every photo in a file on photoshop CS3? I know how to do it to one, but need to know how to do a whole lot of photos (batch process), I just want my name in the bottom right corner, or is it easier/possible to do it with the Canon EOS software as I have this too? Cheers guys.
  8. I got all 4 of mine out when I was 17 so that it was paid for by the government, It was hell at the time, as I was awake and they hadnt actually come through my gums at that stage, but looking back it was a wise financial move (hint to you other 17 year olds), I started getting one at a time but after the first two, I decided I would bite the bullet (or was that the scalpel?) and got the last two out together- (it was not twice as painful.)
  9. wow, have been using Google Earth for the last year in GIS (Geographical Information Systems) but this is way cooler! although it doesn't have a flight simulator so you can fly over the land
  10. ...Then join the New Zealand Trust For Conservation Volunteers. It is free to join, and you can browse community based conservation projects in your region. Also you can use the Forum to discuss volunteering in New Zealand, various projects and issues such as sustainability. I hope at least a couple of you will get on board and make a couple of posts on the forum, it is new, no one really knows about it and we need to get more people involved for it to be effective! Cheers guys! (Click the NZTCV image above to get to the website)
  11. ivanbnz- try Oakley creek in Mt Albert, will be the closest healthy steam to you I think. The creek in the domain draining from the duck pond would probably have them too, I havent checked before
  12. I am at Auckland Uni, prob going back to do Post Grad next year... Also work as a Live animal curator at Auckland Museum and Arataki Visitor centre. Am also admin for http://www.conservationvolunteers.org.nz/forums/ although the site is still quite young and am just trying to spread awareness currently
  13. I feed mine trout pellets, Mealworms, Axolotl pellets and the occasional bit of liver or cat meat (as in meat for feeding cats, not consisting of cats!) after chopping it up
  14. reminds me of a program on TV a while back, on 60 minute i think, about people who love their cars a little TOO much

    Keeping tanks cold

This is for a Native coldwater tank right? You dont need to chill the water for most imported coldwater fish species as they should cope just fine.
  16. wow some people have to get their priorities right! A hunk of metal and glass and a bit of rubber over a hot female
  17. Dont we all! Sorry, had to get there before Ira or Wok!
