  1. I saw some balloons for the first time this week and although they were a beautiful colour I wouldn't buy any. I've had a pair of blue rams before but they just keeled over and died. Thought I'd try my luck with goldens so have just bought a pair, will see how they go.
  2. I'm running an Aqua one CF1200 and an internal Aqua one AT882. It's quite heavily planted but was planning on thinning it out tomorrow as I have some cool driftwood ready to go in. The current occupants are 2 large Angels, 2 Hoplos, 5 Clown loach, 6 Tiger barbs and a school of Serpae tetra so with these guys a bigger tank may be on the cards one day anyway.
  3. Yesterday I was given 2 young (@ 4cm) gold severum. Well, it was either me take them or they were off down the toilet. I have popped them in my 4ft community tank for now and they are swimming about happily at the moment but I'm thinking this probably not be a permanent arrangement. What is best for these fish?
  4. Good luck with the Daltons, I tried to get some before I set up our tank but couldn't be found anywhere in Queenstown but my plants seem to be growing well without it so I'm not gonna bother now.
  5. Lucky you, I think my tiger barbs would make mince meat of Neons!!
  6. I would think barbs would love living with guppies, free lunch. not so good for the guppies though
  7. Was given a bottle. Is this product any good?
  8. Hey Dubbo, yep, I know, it's a combination that's not really recommended. I also have 10 Serpae tetras in there, again not recommended and 3 clown loaches. I think that's why it works actually. All these nippy fish are so busy in the mid levels that they leave the Angels alone. My tank is like a big play centre and I'm pretty sure all my fish are happy
  9. Ethan wants Danios as they're fast and fun to watch. My tiger barbs are very mellow so should leave them alone although they are nosy and have to check out anything new in the tank or any thing they think is interesting in the tank. We call them the stalkers but so far they don't seem to nip
  10. Mine are both marbles too, just black and silver. They're about 2 years old so pretty large now.
  11. I'd love a male Angel as 1 of my girls lays eggs constantly but I'd be too scared to add small ones as the "ladies" can be rather bad tempered
  12. Hi there, any suggestions on who could live in the top level of my tank with my Angels. The Angels are fairly peaceful, I'm convinced they are both female so no breeding going on, they do quarrel with each other and will see off anyone else annoying them. My son would like some Danios but I'm a little worried they may become lunch for either the Angels or my Tiger Barbs, any suggestions?
  13. the tank has been running for quite some time now with an Aqua one internal filter, it's a pretty good filter with good flow and keeps the water really clean but man, does it make a racket. So I brought a CF1200 but now I've read the instructions I'm wondering if I need a degree to set it up!!
  14. do you have to weight them down in the tank?
  15. throw the wood out, find some new wood. Easy!!
  16. most of my fish are bottom or mid level dwellers, the Angels ahve the top level to themselves. I'm wondering if I should add anything else to that level or leave the Angels to rule the roost. Any suggestions?
  17. The only problem I'm having is getting any decent pics of the tank  , any tips?
  18. You've heard it all before. Slowly but surely I've been setting up my 4fter. Last weekend the final occupants went in, my 3 clown loaches. Well, the loaches met the Tiger Barbs (never been in the same tank before).......... instant best friends, oh, the fun they are having, have never seen my lovely loaches so outgoing and happy. The barbs aren't bothering anyone even tho' there are 2 Angelfish in there. My Serpaes are the most beautiful shade of red I've ever seen them and they're not bothering anyone either (except each other  ) and the tank is just so active. I've been watching it for hours. Reminds me just why I love fish. Anyway, just thought I'd share. Tracey
  19. I've never seen any aggression from the female. Would adding another Angel make the problem worse?
  20. I have 2 Angels, about 18mnths old. They are nearly identical but 1 is definately a female as I've seen her laying eggs. She's done this numerous times now but within hours the eggs are eaten or infertile. The last few days I've noticed the second Angel really giving her a hard time and Im suspecting they are both female, would I be right? How can I make my grumpy girls happy? Do they need a Man?
  21. There must be plenty of people here with fish, as Ethan told you we have found plenty of homes for the Kribs and the guy in Perkins road seems to have no trouble selling his fish.
  22. Yep, with Rob too. My clowns are plant eaters too.
  23. Yep, I realise Serpaes are supposed to fin nip but no one has told mine . They are very placid with the other fish and just get on with their own internal politics, hoping to increase their numbers when they move tank. The tank is 250L so hoping there is enough space for everyone.
  24. I also have 10 Serpae tetra who live peacefully with the Angels, just a few niggles amongst themselves. How will they get on with the barbs?
  25. My 4 footer is here and this weekend will be devoted to setting it up. I've decided I really want just the 1 tank but...........................I have a 2 foot tank with 7 young tiger barbs but they neeed a bigger tank. Should I risk putting them in the 4ft with my 2 Angels or just move them up to the 3ft and run 2 tanks?
