  1. Yes, but what sort of corys? Would like to stay away from Bronze or Albino. My Keyholes spend a lot of time feeding on the bottom so don't want anything that will disturb them as they can be quite shy little fish......... on the other hand I really like Hoplos and miss having them in the tank. Ah, who knows?
  2. but sadly, no catfish in the bottom of my tank? Any suggestions?
  3. I have won some on an auction. not sure if the seller is from here or not. I'm excited and can't wait to get them. Hopefully they'll fit in perfectly in my tank.
  4. Anyone wayching this on Animal Planet right now. Some amazing fish to be seen.
  5. Yep, I've noticed the larger of the 2 sevs pulling up the plants already, the polysperma has mad a bit of a hiding. Ok, so plants are out, what are the alternatives? And yes, I know the Barbs are not South American but they're great fun and a big splash of activity in the tank so I' think I'll keep them . Anyway, I've got no cleaner crew so what would the suggestions be there?
  6. I have, living in my 4 foot tank (264lt), 2 gold Severum, 8 juvenile Keyholes, 12 tiger Barbs, 1 Bolivian Ram(was 2 till recently) and 1 large Angel left over from a previous tank manifestation. I'm not planning on keeping all the Keyholes, am sort of waiting till they're old enough to keep a good pair and have homes for the rest sorted. Clearly the tank has evolved into a SA tank of sorts so what next? And plants, what sort of plants should I be looking for? Cheers.
  7. I could maybe take them. I'm up in Queenstown and have 8 juvenile in a 4 foot tank.
  8. Think they started @ $30, didn't pay too much attention, did notice the Jaeger was $66 but didn't notice the watts. What do you need? I've got 5 spare heaters here including 2 new 50w heaters that I'll probably never use as they're too small for my tanks. They're not the flashest brand but they would do you until you can afford a new one, better than using something unreliable that may freeze or cook your fish. Anyway, the offer is there.
  9. Actually, I went out there today and he was open which was great as we were getting low on fish food but $120 later we are well stocked and have 13 Neon tetra as well! But fish wise he has almost no stock so if you want anything you still have to go out of town.
  10. It's hardly what I'd call a fish shop and hasn't been open in about 2 months.
  11. Do you have a heater at the moment? I can lend you one until you buy a new one if you like?
  12. Maybe I should go for a slightly bigger tetra, just thought those colours would look good.
  13. I have an empty 30lt tank I'd like to set up for my Betta. He's a very placid boy, nothing flash to look at, just standard red but he's laid back with a nice personality. Currently he lives with young Kribs but they're at breeding age now and I'd like him to have his own pad!! Was thinking of housing him with a small school of Neons and a couple of Corys. Do you think this will work? I don't think he'll go after the Neons but having lived with the Kribs, he can take care of himself.
  14. I have ordered some and she is happy to arrange for them to come down to Queenstown. Yay........ :bounce:
  15. Mods, please can you remove the multiple threads, my fault for being impatient. cheers.
  16. I had whitespot in my 4ft tank a few weeks back. Has had numerous water changes since and all the remaining fish are healthy and happy, if a little lonely . I was told today that I would need to completely strip the tank down and sterilise it before adding new fish as the whitespot would be lieing dormant in the tank and would infect any new fish. Is this true and if so what do I need to do?
  17. I'm just devastated. I'd never seen it before which may be why I was a bit slow to react and now I've just got so much death. Some of my fish don't seem to be affected at all but for those that are, well, it's just terrible. will increase the meds dose and see what happens.
  18. Increased the temp to 30, only did a half dose as I have clown loaches and was told a full dose would kill them but I've lost 4 anyway.
  19. in my tank. I've never had it before and it's devastating. So far I've lost 2 Hoplos, 1 Angel and 3 Clown loach. I've done a water change, increased thew temp and treated the water with 1/2 dose of Wunder White spot cure. My tetras, barbs, Bala Sharks and Danios are all fine. Is there anything else I can do?
  20. I have rams in with my Scalare Angels with no problems at all, the Angels show no interest in them, too busy quarrelling with each other
  21. thanks again, knew my tank was about 250lt, nice to know it's a little bigger
  22. thanks for that guys, maths is not my best subject and couldn't find a converter.
  23. Tank measures 1200x55x40 cms, how many litres is that?
  24. What about Killifish? They'd be great in a wee tank like that.
  25. Yep, was down at East Road pets
