  1. now 1 of the BNs has joined the party but I'd put $$$$ on them all moving at dinner time in 40 mins. Obviously the fry are made of sterner stuff, they're having a great time with the adults nowhere in sight. Wow, I'd love some big hard case fish, love the severum. Maybe i'll get a bigger tank when I get to Chch but not yet, will be bad enough moving this lot across the island!!
  2. I'd like to get some, very cute. What's a good number to get? I'd want to put them in the community tank which already has 1 adult bronze and 2 peppered, will they get on ok? Oh and there's 2 young BNs in there as well.
  3. Oh, the usual, he started blowing bubble nests a while back so I got him a wife but he was having none of it and beat her up a little, tried putting them together again a bit later but this time he was worse and ripped her fins. Now she's terrified of him and I won't risk putting them together again, hence him living with the swords. Maybe he's gay!!!!
  4. Oh definately, my male Betta who lives with them, does it too but I'm sure he does it cos he's nosey and thinks he's missing out on something. In fact he's so nosey he nearly went up the syphon when he was checking it out. He's the funniest fish, shame he doesn't like girls but that's another story.
  5. other than the fact we're screwed at the cricket!! Every time I do a water change in my swords tank they hang around the heater afterwards. You'd think I put iced water in there, checked the thermostat and it's 26 degrees. They always do this for a couple of hours, big babies!!! Meanwhile the fry are zooming around happy as Larry. Who understands fish thinking??
  6. I'm gonna have a go later today. Going to keep the syphon down in the gravel as most of the fry are hanging out in the floating plants although they are starting to swim all over the tank now, they still live with mum, dad and 2 aunties but the big guys seem to have lost interest in eating them now. Boy, it's gonna be 1 overcrowded tank soon!!
  7. He's a silly fish so all of those things could apply!! He's well this morning and had his breakfast and getting down to the serious business of playing with his buddies. Will keep on with the melafix and frequent water changes. Would hate to lose him, he's 1 of our first tropical fish and I'm veery attached to him.
  8. No, haven't changed anything in the tank and he's lived in it a long time. My only thought was maybe it was done by another fish but I can't think who. Been treating him for a couple of days now and the scrape seems to be getting smaller so hopefully it will heal up. And he's still happy as larry, fooling around with his peppered mates and gobbling his food.
  9. Right, that sounds like the way to go. Wish me and the fry luck!!
  10. What's the best way to go about this without sucking up the fry? Cheers.
  11. Came home from 6 days away and my bronze cory has what appears to be a large scrape along his side. Other than the scrape he seems fine, behaving as normal ( well, as normal as he ever is). He's eating fine and playing about as usual, no sign of fungas. I'm wondering how this could have happened. Anyway I'm treating with melafix, anything else I should be doing?
  12. I have 3 young angels, about 5-6cms not including tail. They all look he same to me. Have looked for bumps on their heads and curved chests but still they look the same! What should I be looking for?
  13. I have WCMM in with my goldfish and they're doing really well. They're showing great colour at the moment and are far too fast to be goldfish tucker. Eventually I'd like to have them all outside in a small pond. Love the leopard fish and love this new forum!!!!
  14. Geez, they never stop. Been away 6 days and came home to about 40(??) sword fry in the tank. I'm gonna need another tank  ..........................
  15. Wow, I've never thought about platties before but now I've seen those..............fantastic colour.................
  16. Things must be going ok, been away for 6 days, friend feeding fish and came home yesterday to a seething mass of sword fry in the floating plants. I'm tickled pink as usual!!
  17. I've moved him to the community tank, I moved the smallest female as well and they both are doing well in their new home. they are the only orange fish in there so they're looking really good. So have moved 2 young rasbora into the sword tank as they're getting too big for the baby tank, confused yet? well, the sword fry are, they're following the rasboras around like puppies. I can almost see the rasboras thinking "who are these weirdos!!??" Ha,ha..........oh well, all good fun.
  18. Yep, I'm aware they're not 'real' sharks. would love a Bala shark but they just get too big for my tank and I'm not planning on buying a bigger one..........but then again..............!!!!
  19. Maybe I'll have to forget the shark thing as I've quite a few smallish tetras and other small fish in my tank.
  20. Thanks for that. I'm really sorry for the poor male, he's spent the day searching everywhere. I guess he'll adjust. I recently joined NZKA so maybe someone will have some females cos now he has noone to show off to and he koves to show off.
  21. I'm thinking about getting a shark for my 3 foot community tank, are there any which don't grow too big that i could keep? Cheers.
  22. My lovely female dageti has died in the night. she had been a little lethargic the last couple of days. Now my male is frantic, searching all over the tank for her, poor boy. If anybody has any females for sale I'd be grateful if you'd contact me............thanks
  23. I have 10 WCMM in a 60cm planted tank, sounds like they'd go well together. I'll have a look around for some. Are they a schooling fish, i'm guessing they are.
  24. he's a very handsome young man so he'll need some very pretty girls, I can feel my wallet opening already..........
