From what I understand it doesn't take enough out to disturb the cycle though in your question you mentioned nitrates which is the end of the cycle so it wouldn't matter anyway as that is what water changes are meant to lower. I have chatted with a few people on dif forums and those that use it are quite happy with it's results and no ill efects to fish or cycle. Side note I haven't gone as far to try it myself yet but am planning to on my next Cannister clean.
  2. 15000 / 24 = 625 days or 20.83 monthes based on an average 30 day month so numbers are screwy somewhere there. That is also assuming 24-7 operation which would drive the fish nutty.
  3. I tend to replace bulbs anywhere between 6 and 8 monthes with the RARE replacement being a year.
  4. Guess that is as safe a place as any for em.. lol Gratz and Merry Christmas.

    Breeding

Most likely pregnant if it has EVER been around a male.. Don't recommend the lil breeder traps as they stress the female much more then is safe, usually causing her to abort or give birth premature.

    Breeding

With Livebearers if you want to get the max survival rate then a separate tank for birthing and another for raising is my suggestion as per links to my tanks in sig. To have average survival and not need the extra tanks and have sudden mass influx of fry and fishes to deal with then just make sure main tank is well planted with lots of bushy plants and maybe some floating plants. Basically somewhere for the lil guys to hide. You will still lose some from each batch but the strong and or smart survive by hiding in the plants till they are too big for Mouthes.
  15. Don't block the big pipe. If air bubbles are rushing up it to the surface of the water then it is doing it's job simple as that .. As mentioned re the cannister unit try taking it apart (carefully) most pieces should be clips or twists not meaning the screws and such. and check to see if the impeller is dirty/stuck.
  16. Hmm.. Too bad yer not closer could ship me some and would let ya know what they were in a month or two heheheh Seriously Gratz on the eggs
  17. Nice looking layout and while have seen similar with a Cannister had never thought of a standard power head hmm .. Gives me ideas for the two 20's in the Garage as there is a pair of power heads waiting with em too Thanx ..
  18. The way it's worded may be confusing but it looks like he is saying that he is adding co2 to the tank it is in , NOT sending a co2 unit with the plant ..
  19. Okay that makes a lil sence but still way over priced.. CDN = about 87cents US atm I think.
  20. Not sure on dollar diff between here and NZ but that unit I can snag from my LFS for 27.99 CDN so starting bid at 50 makesme say hmmmm.
  21. Saltwater is heavier the freshwater..
  22. I can see it now.. Fish a) what are those bubbles? Fish b) No (rippppp) Idea
