  1. Tropica's info on it .. does look nice though .. Family Scrophulariaceae Continent North America Region Central America Country of origin Height 5-15+ cm Width 5-15 cm Light requirements medium-very high Temperature 20-28 °C Hardness tolerance very soft-very hard pH tolerance 5-8 Growth fast Demands difficult Hemianthus micranthemoides is a graceful plant whose small, arched leaves make it look like a miniature version of Egeria. It has a characteristic trailing growth in intensive light, so it can be used as a foreground plant. A compact group of H. micranthemoides is very beautiful with its small, light-green leaves. In terrariums the plant forms a compact cushion. Used to be called Micranthemum micranthemoides.
  2. I can see my main tank from another room hell even when I'm not home .. you mean you can't? Kidding and I cheat with a "webcam"
  3. True enough with proper circulation there "shouldn't" be cold spots. But if the heater is behind a largeish plant or piece of decor that may deminish the water flow past the heater it can and does happen.
  4. That's actually a good point .. make sure it is a submersible before sticking it in the water.. A friend of mine got a new tank back in the summer and when I popped by to take a peek he had am ALLGlass submersible mounted with the top sticking out of the water way past where the "safe water level" mark was .. Which of course the heater would not turn on as it has a built in saftey when the water gets low. He was used to the old style hang on back style of heaters and thought that was how they were to be mounted..
  5. My Neighbour that does stained glass uses emeroy cloth (a type of sandpaper) to smooth the edges on some of his glass pieces. Might be worth looking into..
  6. I have had a variant of positions over time and different tanks. Between up and down, angled, and straight across the bottom. It really depends on the decor and such you are going to put in the tank to hide it and what the water flow will be as you don't want it sitting in a "cold spot" and thus over heating the rest ov the tank. In short the submersible heaters position is up to the end aquatist (that's you in this case).

Well last weekend I added 3 blue leds mentioned in my reply above to my main tank.. here is the pics I took last night.. http://www.mentoria.on.ca/fish/images/blue1.jpg http://www.mentoria.on.ca/fish/images/blue2.jpg http://www.mentoria.on.ca/fish/images/blue3.jpg http://www.mentoria.on.ca/fish/images/blue4.jpg The actual tank isn't as bright as the pic due to exposure times etc to actually see something decent in a pic.
  8. I think my Mollies would see them as a great snack.. They tend to eat anything smaller then thier mouth specially off the surface of the water.. Free food can't go wrong there..
  9. 44 tanks damn... I gonna have to get moving on somemore then .. only have 4 atm....
  10. I too would add the wood and water now.. And plan out where you want to place plants and other decor. I tend to add plants with at least 3/4 of the water in the tank makes it a lil easier to see that they are buried well enough not to float and anything without strong stems won't fall over as much and get damaged. Not always as easy to plant this way based on things being in the way and working with the reduced weight of gravel/sand under water but in the end I find it easier based on the over all.
  11. Okay so where are the pics of these lil pigmentaly challenged beauties..
  12. Realise that you are most likely not in Canada but here are the Canadian prices that I found to compare.. The Ehiem 2217 has Canadian price of 299 retail on average. The 2217 is suitable for aquariums up to 160 gallons and has a pump output of 264 GPH. Where as the 2215 priced at 229 The 2215 is suitable for aquariums up to 95 gallons and has a pump output of 164 GPH. The Fluval 405 Prices at 199 for aquariums up to 400 Liters (100 U.S. gallons) (page didn't show gph) The Fluval 305 prices at 149 for aquariums up to 300 Liters (70 U.S. gallons). (page didn't show gph) Here is link to compare sizes and flow rates.. http://www.petsolutions.com/Info.aspx?id=59 Personally I would spend the extra on the Ehiem and no I am not rich nor have money to waste and I do own both Eheim and Fluval filters at current EDIT well more addition wanted to state that I had not used the Jebo filters mentioned above to be able to comment on them fairly with exerience though I do trust Caryl's judgement and would look at them in future based on her recommends.
  13. here's an article from PFK on breeding Killies.. http://www.practicalfishkeeping.co.uk/p ... cle_id=503 Says upto ten years for eggs ? WOW!!!
  14. Take a look around for an Ehiem 2215 or 2217 .. 2217 being a lil better as the numbers suggest..
  15. Some new Photos since I aquired 3 more Ancistrus last night.. Here are the 4 Ansistrus teenagers in my Fry tank http://www.mentoria.on.ca/fish/images/IM000677.JPG http://www.mentoria.on.ca/fish/images/IM000678.JPG http://www.mentoria.on.ca/fish/images/IM000679.JPG http://www.mentoria.on.ca/fish/images/IM000681.JPG Pic of the whole tank. http://www.mentoria.on.ca/fish/images/IM000682.JPG There is another Ancistrus Teen in another tank to make a total of 5 but he or I think it's a he is camera shy at the moment..
  16. My LFS sells a motion activated lawn sprinker system that scares away birds and cats etc from ponds.. If it is the cats or other non-invited guests it may be worth looking at.
  17. If you usually remove the rocks maybe something rubbing off them .. what type of rocks are in the tank ?
  18. The heater should have come with lil suction cups for mounting it on the glass without directly touching the glass. As for temp it will depend on the fish you keep. My main tank and matunaty ward are both set at 78ish where as the wife's tank and my Nursery are both set at 75ish. If it is labeled as submersible than there should be no issue with the cord in the water mine are usually mounted right beside an uplift from the ugf close to the filter output to semi hide it and make sure it is in the water circulation area.
  19. Can get them here but the size is an issue for my tanks still
  20. Okay this is gonna sound Newb but what is the reason for putting poly under the tank again I know to balance weight and ensure no bumps etc but I look at my tanks without and poly and think if I put poly under them the weight of the tank is gonna send the plastic framing right through the poly or crush the crap outta it and the bottom glass will rest on it thus stressing the glass. Guess a lil confused at this point I get the base idea but looking for a lil better explaination or are these tank bare glass bases and thus no plastic frames that they sit on?
  21. Looking at the prices of slate at the LFS (2.50CDN per lb) vs. the Prices of Slate "floor tiles" at the local home depot (10CDN for 5 sq foot) and the prices at the Gravel yard (forget exaxt but they tend to sell bulk so cheap if only grabbing a few stones). The Gravel yard is cheaper then the LFS and home depot but both are rather potluck for thinkness and sizes. And a more natural look. If looking for semi uniform thickness then the Home depot is decent priced that can be cut or broke to match you needs. Great for caves when cut.
  22. Was prolly easiest to take the pic in the bag I would think before it was a task to get a good angle and him/her to stay still hehheh Beautiful Plec..

Here is what I have mounted as a "night light" in my bedroom tank 20 US Gal Tall. I just bought one of the single light sets for now but in the link below scroll down and there is a "hub" that allows added "light only" to be added for less $ and plugs if you need more then one in a tank. Marina® Micro LED Light Set And No I don't shop at P3Tdumb was just easiest to link heheh Here is what a single white led of these looks like no flash with the main tank and room lights off.. Clickie on Me for Pic!!! Addition EDIT.. Forot to link pic with light on for ya to see what harware looks like under water. Clickie HERE The unit suction cups to the inside of the tank for subdued light or outside for a brighter "beam" effect. Personally I like it inside but I do plan to move it a lil higher on the back when I get a chance.
  25. Beautiful fish and great photos too.. Thanks Caryl .. tracked me down here too eh lol.. Actually think I found this site because of your sig to the North there.
