  3. The stainless ones are good for the marine environment, stick with the Visi therm if your not putting it in salt water, We have had visi therm for over 5 years still going strong /Bruce
  4. Dr Steve O'Shea Giving a Talk @ National Aquarium Steve is an expert on Giant Squid in New Zealand and will be giving a talk on them on Saturday 17th May from 6.30 - 7.00pm onwards Cost will be $7.00 This promises to be a very educational talk, if you have any questions then please do not hesitate to ask /Bruce
  5. Clubs should have their caps in by a certain date, if they dont make it by that cutoff point then they miss out on going into the year book, simple as that still feel the same way about the year book, its not worth having this year, as far as I am concerned HBAS will not be paying the year book levy this coming year. /Bruce
  6. The egg layers paste might be ok, I havent had that much luck with it on catfish, but it seems to have worked on one of our recent breeding of Keyhole Cichlids Just keep up the water changes, the more you can feed them the better, at least 3-4 times per day would be good /Bruce
  7. Good on you Ira  As soon as you see the fry starting to move around in their egg sacs start your water changes to get rid of the "Blue Stuff" I find feeding Corys to be a bit of a pain, I have found Infusoria to be the best for the 1st week from then on either very finely crushed flake and egg yolk from then on, with daily water changes of around 50% Good Luck /Bruce
  8. I am sure most clubs will agree that the year book is now not worth having, we will be waiting for the 2003-04 version
  9. HI Mitch You have timed that right, HBAS is having a tank and pond crawl on Sunday starting at 9.30am in Hastings Please contact Warren, he has all the details. /Bruce

    fishroom

While you are unsrewing the gib, throw it away, your room will get very humid and the gib will absorb any moisture, unless of course it is the latest wet area gib that is for sale these days. We have painted hardboard for linings in our fishroom which will withstand moisture and mould and is easily cleaned As for an RCD, I use one which is wired back to mains, its money well spent in my opinion /Bruce

    Aquatic Articles

The last time I was in Christchurch I had the opportunity to have a look through Kritter Kingdoms Quarantine facilty, I spent quite a bit of time there and almost missed my flight  Well worth looking at if you do get the chance The owners were helpful and friendly, nice fish at good prices /Bruce
  14. Now what were you saying about exporting fish to EnZed???  /Bruce
  15. I use pumice as well for filtration, does not affect the PH at all /Bruce
  16. Hi Dennis Petshops listed below Animalz (Taradale Road, Napier) Taradale Pet Shop (Tardale Shopping Centre) Animalz (Havelock North, Napier Road) Cuddles and Puddles (King Street South, Hastings) Not alot of stock in all the shops but you might find something interesting /Bruce
  17. Good to see you have the breeding bug    Are you sure 3 tanks is enough???????? What I do is set the parents up in their own tank wil the java moss in no time soon you will see the little guys swimming around the top, well if you have good eye sight any way, (My wife finds ours) Get a very fine fish net and take them away into another tank. no filter and a small bit of java moss Feeding them is not a problem, green water is good, also you could hard boil an egg, seperate the yolk and mix a little yolk with water and mix well and pour that in, after about 3 weeks they should be old enough to eat finely crushed flake Good luck /Bruce
  18. Have a look under FNZAS Plant Survey Java Moss http://www.fnzas.org.nz/index.php?id=320&user_plants=140 /Bruce
  19. Hi Caryl The Older Fry Eat The Younger Fry, the parents are pretty good. /Bruce
  20. Hi Aqua Yes they can be either Tropical or Cold water Have a look at my other post on breeding Wcmm's /Bruce
  21. Hi Aqua Nothing to breeding WCMM's. They are pretty easy. Wcmm's are able to be kept in both cold and tropical tanks I was given 5 or 6 about 7 months ago, these were put into our fish room to spawn away and guess what... Nothing!!!! (Who said it was easy) They were in a tank that was heated to around 26 degrees with the bottom of the tank covered in Willow Moss So after a month or 2 ...I put them into a different tank that has a temp of around 22 degrees again with Willow Moss covering the bottom, within 2 weeks there were hundreds of them, these guys (and girls) just dont stop!!! The older Wcmm's will eat the smaller ones as well so it is best to seperate any of the smaller ones asap So IMHO the temp is the key to breeding these guys Hope this helps /Bruce
  22. Hi Aqua Mine get tropical flake that I just crush between my fingers into a dust, this go's for all of my smaller fish, Baby Guppies, Tetras etc Hope this helps /Bruce
  23. I know its only early in the year but thought I would start the thread :-) Who's going to Blenheim for this years conference? Best of luck to Caryl and the Blenheim Club for this years event. Looking forward to it and catching up with everyne again, then of course there is the big one in 2004 in Vanuatu, at the moment there are about 12 people from Hawkes Bay saving madly for that one /Bruce
  24. This issue is over as far as I am concerned, in my opinion the post was removed as I found it to be out of line. Sorry if you disagree. Posts will be removed if they cross the boundaries again. I dont agree with naming of stores or the people concerned It does nothing for fishkeeping in NZ at all. /Bruce
  25. I have Removed the offending message, This is not what these forums are about. I agree with Caryl on this as well, if you have a problem take it up personally with the people concerned /Bruce
