  1. Really, they had a sign out last week with 299, price must be going up coz its getting warmer  Yes they are in Onekawa Whatever the $$ its worth it /Bruce
  2. Adventure Dive has them for 299 thought DHQ would still be matching that . It was quite a while ago that I did my O/Water so things might have changed a bit (PADI) is the organisation that certifies you (DHQ) are using the PADI qualification If your from Hawkes Bay, invest in a 7mm suit, it gets bitterly cold in the middle of winter  /Bruce
  3. We went to Vanuatu last year with kids, 10 through to 16, Santo would probabaly get a bit boring for the non divers, there is plenty of good dive locations on the mainland, with reasonable places for the kids to enjoy snorkling as well. We did all our dives with Tranquility Island resort, good variety of dives Stayed at Le Lagon, they have kayaks, bar, sailboats, bar, Kids Club, bar,Golf Course, Pool, Bar, Restaurant, Bar Local Beer is very addictive Best Regards Bruce
  4. Open water courses are around $299 here in Napier When I did mine there were 6 pool sessions, 4 dives in Lake Taupo and 2 boat dives (sea), PADI requires 4 openwater dives to complete your training My advice, get your medical, buy your own mask (Stay away from the low volume black silicone, alot of beginners hate them) snorkle, boots, fins, wetsuit and gloves. I like the good quality regs and computers, bcds up to you really, can get good deals second hand, I like to carry some weight in my bcd so have weight integrated. Dive at the National Aquarium, very good, fed the fish on Sunday, have done this heaps of times and still enjoy every minute of it Go for it whatever the cost, there is nothing like it Bruce
  5. Hi Craig Best (easiest) way is to siphon them out with a gravel cleaner Good Luck Bruce
  6. Yes, we wear gloves when handling the corals or feeding. The gloves come from a friend who does "HerdTesting" got a box of 100 the other day, should keep us going for a while Use them if you can Better Safe Than Sorry /Bruce
  7. Hi A ph of this level will not kill fish when you say ammonia, nitrates are fine? what are they? How much and how often are you feeding? /Bruce
  8. Hi Tony Brown algae is a classic example of NTS, not a great bio load on the tank with the fish you have in there at the moment, keep on with the water tests and changes, you will notice the brown algae disapear reasonably quickly. As long as the fish are healthy and feeding well, dont worry /Bruce

    got squid?

There is a Giant Squid on display at the National Aquarium in Napier Dead Of Course) Steve O'Shea gave a talk there a while back about the squid According to Steve,The most frustrating thing you can do is try to raise the squid, apparently they would not survive in a square sided container, die within seconds of being placed in one, put them in a round container and they would last quite some time, cant remember exactly how long but it sure beat a couple of seconds. Very interesting guy with heaps of passion for his job BTW, I saw that Holmes show as well

Dont want to be running down to BOC every 5 minutes to refil, but space is a factor (made my sump tank too big now theres not much room) Bruce
