Covering the soil with straw is great for the winter, you can also add some newspaper under if for extra weed protection. If you cover it with poly you could "sour" the soil as it won't be able to breathe properly, and the addition of straw will mean that you get some goodness back into your soil.
Much as I would love to come, I can't as I have promised a friend that I will go to her place for her bbq (I have been meaning to go there since September last year  )
Have you had a look at DavidR's thread on sump for his 1400L in technical? That may give you more info, also check out his fishroom thread link in his signature.
I have a sump for my marine tank, Tim from insideoceans made my tank set up for me so you could try giving him a pm. I have my main tank drilled at the bottom which I think makes it look cleaner.
Hello Everyone
We will be holding our AGM meeting on Saturday March 27th starting from 5pm. Please bring a plate to share.
We will be holding the meeting early as the first Saturday of April is easter weekend.
Everyone is welcome. Please pm me for meeting address.
Might have to come along as well (providing I can convince my hubby to look after our toddler  ). I'll email all our members about this and see whether anyone wants to host saturday tea.
Just reminding everyone that the meeting is this Saturday. Everyone is welcome.
We are also having a fundraising sausage sizzle at bubble and squeak (Stanmore Road) this saturday so come on round and meet some of our members.
Hi Josh, try searching cf1000 on trademe, it is a reasonable priced (around $150) external filter for upto 200L and many members fine them fine, otherwise organism has a fluval 205 for $200 (a good easy filter to use).
The sausage sizzle will be Saturday 28th November, are you sorting out your work? I have to write an email to everyone so that we can organise this fundraiser
I am organising a presentation from Peter Cottle at the November meeting. Peter is an expert on danios and devarios and will give us a presentation on his last trip to Myanmar (Burma) to catch live fish in their native habitat.
We are being organised for once and have actually organised next months meeting!
It will be held on November 7th at DonnaM's house starting at 5pm. It will be a barbeque so please bring some meat and a salad or dessert.
For those of you interested in turtles you'll love this location
We will notify you all of the address closer to the date.
