  1. what info are you wanting to log & what do you need reminding of?
  2. all of it? i think the substrate holds more than the filter. before there were canisters the filters were generally U/G filters so the substrate had to be the media & hold the bacteria. I regularly start "new" tanks & add fish the same day & it always works well as long as I take some existing substrate as well as the filter. On the flip side replacing an existing filter with a new filter has never caused a problem.

    g'day

    hi & welcome
  4. i wouldn't recommend double dosing, that seems to end in disaster. I dosed as directed to get rid of my BBA.
  5. have you tested the water? what ph is the tank?
  6. it doesn't matter how well you seal particle board or mdf if it is in regular contact with mositure it will swell. to prevent it swelling you would need to make the outer layer water proof. Particle board performs better than mdf when wet as it is pourous so lets most of the moisture out rather than mdf which retains the moisture. i would use plywood if it is regularly getting wet but over time that will still rot if you don't use treated ply. Don't use "marine ply" or "Premium A" which they now call it as it is not treated.
  7. i have had a few tropheus fry in the canisters

    Tank Mates?

they will eventually out grow a 200L tank, got any plans for upgrading?
  9. i knew that they didn't take long to start breeding, nice!
  10. only if they are melteca/melamine with PVC clashed edges. the stands that have foil wrapped mdf/pb panels are far better. if they were made out of ply i am sure there would be many threads complaining about the price :sml2:
  11. great setup, nice pembas!
  12. welcome. stephen from dunedin is very famous!
  13. nice work, you must be stoked.
  14. i did also find that when the impeller wore out it also became noisy, replacing it made it silent.
  15. i find my filters get noisy as they increase the air around the impeller. I re-prime them & they usually become much quieter. For internals i would pull the impeller out & replace submersed so no air locks can be made.
  16. the giraffes will get way to large for a tank that size & IME way too aggro at around 4 to 5" in length for a tank that size. It is a good size for africans like e yellows & peacocks along with the dems & maybe some shellies or lump heads would give it a good range of species. I had success with cobalt & red zebras in a tank that size but that is a bit hit & miss with their aggression.
  17. what are the dimensions of the tank? the foot print will determine if giraffes are able to be kept in that.

    Buzzys Reef

gotta love fresh tanks that still look new :nfs:
  19. i wouldn't bother bagging them, just use the poly box as a tank.
