  1. cool, thanks for that. he has come from a breeder that had around 20 collies & we went to the agility show/comp in mangawhai on sunday & he was totally chilled out with all the other dogs around.
  2. so we have had "jordie" who is a 5 month old boy for a day now & still have not heard a single bark come out of his mouth. Got to love eye dogs! He has been great, the kids have managed to wear him & themselves out completely and he fetches a tennis ball, plays soccer & sits on command so hopefully we can continue his training & create a really pleasant animal to live with.
  3. nice, i really like the rusties to.
  4. i think they are awesome. i would have thought they would have made the bed & she would have put some clothes on :slfg:
  5. great dane & apartment life, what else would people that live in apartments have. :slfg: as for keeping it outside, that is the rule. I won't put up with that, whether it requires a electronic collar or a 223 it won't be inside.
  6. thanks for all of your replies, very interesting. The time spent isn't as much of an issue for us as we home school the children so are always home the majority of the time. my son is a devoted animal boy & has already proven that he sticks with his pets over the last 3 to 4 years with his orpingtons. from the research we've done the BC doesn't get as big as the vizsla or pointers etc so that suits us better for the sized dog we want. the hunting aspect is a good one but the guys i shoot with already have theirs & it is alot easier for me if they continue to do so if i was going to get a dog/s for myself it would be pig hunting dogs as i do prefer that over duck shooting. as for the hens, i welcome it to herd them as that will mean they will stay away from the house all of the time rather than most of it.
  7. hi all. I have been thinking about getting a dog for some time & have finally decided to get one. I had dogs myself as a kid but lost interest really but this is not for me. Now, there are a few musts for this new addition to our family. I have three children, it will primarily belong to my 10 year old son who I know will spend most of his time with it as he is a pocket knife carrying, gumboot wearing hunting type kid. We have about 6 acres, 20 odd hens & 2 angus yearlings so there is plenty of other animals around which may or may not be a good thing. It must be an out side dog and not a pansy little yappy thing that resembles a mobile mop. It must not be a massive thing like rottie or ridgeback type beast and preferably on the quieter side rather than a full on barker. I am thinking a border collie would be a good choice, what do you think? All thoughts welcomed.

    african keeper

it took you a while
  9. the current retail for trophs other than duboisi is more than that isn't it? i would like to see kasanga & would like pay $120ish each i guess but dreams are free. What i would also like to see here are the Tang gobies Eretmodus and Xenotilapia species. they would make a nice mix for a troph tank.
  10. i have no idea what they are asking but i would expect that it would be $2000 or possibly more. i think something as exotic as that justifies a price tag that reflects the effort & dedication required to keep one & i think it would not matter where you were in NZ it is the sort of pet/family heirloom that you travel to it to check it out in person. It simply needs a life time commitment i think.
  11. the tank needs to be cycled for the bacteria to establish. add a few fish & gradually increase numbers over time. have you done any water changes yet?
  12. are there any other fish in the tank?
  13. nice kp, the empress & fronts make for a brilliant looking tank when adults.
  14. i would use a 300w jager, if you find that isn't enough add a 150 or 200w just to be safe.
  15. :spop: here is one of my juvies
  16. if a jager fails it burns out the power line & therefore cannot fry your fish. as above the only potential issue will be the length i think.
  17. a sump is just another way to filter your water so if you already have one set up definatly use it. the africans will be suited to a high ph of anywhere from 7.4 or higher so the coral rock etc will be useful for that. your tank is a good size & as long as you filter around 6 times teh tank volume per hour you'll be set up well & will have great success keeping africans. other than that just put plenty of compatible fish in there & feed plenty & every thing should be fine. what species have you got in mind?
  18. vaseline, the perfect lube for any ring.
  19. the cost of repairing something is very simple: parts cost + labour cost = charge amount the manufacturing of new products by several thousand at a time is often going to be cheaper especially when there are so few components in something like a fire extinguisher. we repair more complex & expensive things like our cars becuase they generally fail with a part that costs a fraction of the over all value of the vehicle & the labour is not enough to make it viable to repair.
  20. either that or the element is on it's way out
