  1. I know the people at my lfs really well, they pay $145 for a CF1200 from Kongs & they can't work out how others are selling them for what they are. I would suggest that some are getting better buy prices than others which creates differing sell prices. thats a normal price for africans in stores.
  2. common africans are approx $8/cm & tropheus are around $18/cm
  3. an example of someone to wrapped up in their own importance.
  4. my in-laws have a 350D that we use, canons are fantastic!
  5. thats quite an irony. usually its the opposite.
  6. welcome. i am sure you will be quite shocked at what we pay for africans here. is your forum good for african keepers or more aimed at the SA's?
  7. those should really be in a 4 footer, 3 foot minimum. the 620 is far too small, its a great excuse to get a new setup
  8. just get a 3mm thick piece, you won't see it in a week if you trim it around the tank
  9. your not going to need it with a 5 litre. 60 litre i thought would need some, its a glass tank? the problem with glass is that if you stress one area i can crack so the poly help level the tank & also stops small debris pressing on one area & creating a stress point.
  10. what tanks do you mean? the "factory tanks", aqua one, sunsun etc have it on the bottom but can only see it from beneath it.
  11. gravel, i hadn't even thought how many litres that would reduce the tanks capacity by. both rock work & substrate promote bacteria to.
  12. the rocks in my tank which give a good amount of territory & cover fit into a 10L bucket so i would estimate the cubic area of them would equate to around 6 litres of water, hardly worth worrying about out of 300L. Then there is the extra litres created when you use an external filter so that makes up for that easily. you are correct in theory but practically not an issue IMO.
  13. but also creating visual impact & territory or protection for the some of the fish.
  14. you don't think that a vet might have some idea about what they do? you must give what they say some merit surely? i have mine with fryeri, red zebs, cobalt blues & red empress & they are fine. there's an exception to every rule or generalisation.
  15. i do & always have kept peacocks with mbuna without any problems what so ever. my baenschi have breed almost twice as many fry as any other fish i have had for the same length of time & i would almost be certain the male was the dominant fish in the tank as he did more chasing than any other fish.
  16. 300L 4 footer, my africans aren't going to get much more then 5 inch or so generally due to what they are except for the red empress but they are around 3 inch at the moment. how about a pic of your tank? I would have thought you wouldn't have any issues have quite a few more in there. how much filtration have you got running?
  17. yes as treats but i really think variety is the key, just like people. i feed 2 cubes of BW in a tank of around 30 fish so they don't really get that much each after the fight is finished. in the lake they will feed on what ever is available at the time which will change as the seasons do. there are fish we keep the are noted as carnivores, fryeri is one but mine get alot more vegetable matter then meat & they do very well & i'd doubt there are many out there that are feed prodominantly meat. i have seen a few national geographic doco's that have been really informative & gives a general idea of how it all works. they have to eat what is available or die. did he only have the one tropheus?
  18. try the same feeding for a few days & see what happens, i have found them to be really hardy, easy to keep fish so most times its better to look at the simpler cause of a problem rather than something that you can't really confirm for sure. I really don't like the idea of throwing in meds without proper cause, people will say "yeah it's fine" but do we really know for sure & anyway, in the lake they will die so IMO it's best to try to keep things as natural as possible within reason. the only fish i have ever lost have been due to my own mistakes not illness or attack from others. I feed a few types of food to my africans & feed them morning & night. When i feed there is always food left on the bottom for up to half an hour after, i have found them to be "slowish eaters" especially with the hard sinking sticks as they have to crush it up & they will spit & re-eat a few times. i feed mainly jbl novorift sinking sticks, jbl novovert & sera granugreen. they also get sushi wrap, shelled peas, beans & blood worms on the weekends. this includes my tropheus which are supposed to be the worst for bloat & i have never had a bloat case in any fish.
  19. feed them more than you usually would tonight & see what happens.
  20. it could also be nothing, try feeding a bit more than normal & see what happens. have you been increasing the amount fed as they grow? are they eating algae if there is any?
  21. aren't all cows born fully grown? i have seen some pretty small oscars, around an inch the last couple i saw & in fact there are 1 or 2 at our LFS now if your doen that way but they are probably 2 inch or so now.
  22. A genuine example of a fish keeper who knows nothing about his fish & a store that will sell anything to anyone. Only this time it was broadcast on national TV.
  23. i don't know anything about this but that turtle is very lucky to be in the "collective hands" of people that are willing to take time out of their day & work very hard at keeping it alive, many animals aren't so lucky. good work & good luck.
  24. shows how easy things can get leaked, a mate did a similar thing on PB but he had a "special" album of his girlfriend
