  1. don't forget the little bells & pepper spray
  2. what is it that you need hunted, i have a steady supply of possums eating the fruit from my traps.
  3. about 4 1/2 inches, i also have 2 that are about 1 1/2 inches in size. i have lent them to friends that have had snail explosions in small tanks to clean them up, they eat so many in such a short time it was amazing.
  4. obviously a loach can only eat what i can fit in its mouth. here's the pic form the Show us your clowns thread of mine with africans
  5. i have my four clowns in african tanks & they do very well, they out compete the africans when it comes to feed time.
  6. clowns take 20 years to get big, what size is your tank. It must be a least 3 foot to have discus or not?
  7. clown loaches will be ideal, they eradicated my snail infestation.
  8. the two pics in the middle look more like my fryeri male & female than my peacock male & female
  9. so the dog was inside the glass coming out?
  10. i'm pretty sure you could but i have found food containing spirulina makes them get dark spots or patches. my red zebs got dark spots & at my LFS they have a zebra in with a small eel in a emergency tank & the zebra ate the spirulina food intended for the eel & got a dark beard. i thaw the peas in a glass of water, then rip the shell & squeeze them out of the shell & into the tank. once you have done twenty or so you will be a master! the africans will rip it up when they are small, mine are mostly adults so they eat them whole. Its fun to watch 6 or 8 africans competing for a single pea.
  11. be careful what you feed africans. i personally believe you can feed them anything but food that is not intended for them should only be fed occassionally. I feed the bought foods, JBL Novo rift & Novo vert, Sera Granugreen & Granumeat but also feed shelled peas, sushi wrap, blood worms, cucumber & have even thrown in the odd piece of cooked steak. i have never had a bloat case & have only lost a few fish in the last few years.
  12. thats very interesting, with it being more dense than steel then it will be more brittle? I worked with granite for a while & it would also shatter like glass if you knew where to hit it.
  13. i have found that different food types generate different waste & effect the tank conditions. If you feed JBL Novo Rift Sinking sticks (i mainly feed this) then you do get some tiny food particles in the water. africans have two rows of muscles in their mouths that crush their food so a britle food will create "crumbs". A softer food like Sera Granumeat or Granugreen don't break up when crushed but tend to float & stick to tank top surrounds & get sucked up the filter inlet so it's a play off between them. As for algae eaters, i don't have any so i would also be interested to know what will mix well.
  14. sweet, nice work. one thing i struggle with regarding the rocks is algae, i scrub mine. a algae eater or 10 may be required.
  15. hey barrie, help me understand this.... when you cut a big hole in the centre of a apne of glass it does not weaken it at all? it takes the same force to break it than it would without the hole?
  16. you have opened a can of worms posting this auction they bought them as red shoulders, they say they are now showing yellow tinges so are calling them sunshine peacocks...... i wouldn't buy them if you want quality fish. These may be good quality fish but they simply don't know what they are.
  17. my back door glass with a cat door in it broke when it slammed shut. the break went from the corner of the cat door to the top of the pane.
  18. as long as conditions don't change a large amount to quickly they will adjust with no problem what ever the ph is. I have found africans to be very hardie fish in general.
  19. don't panic about ph, my africans have been in ph's from 8.0 to 7.0 which they are in now & i have not seen any difference in them in anyway at all. they still colour & behave the same.
  20. check out this, is this what they are? http://www.aquariumguys.com/fluval-405- ... ilter.html
