  1. its amazing what people can do when they understand the principals of what they want to achieve.
  2. i have also had red zebs get dark spots when i changed to a spirulina based food. recently i had a e yellow go very dark, the same darkish colouring that i have seen people on here confirm as a bad quality fish. she is the offspring of my yellows which are top quality, I put her in a tank by herself & instantly she became the best coloured yellow i have seen. i think it may be due to stress or something, i don't really know what but the moment she was in a tank alone all was normal. maybe yours are not so happy with the conditions, maybe a rearrange of the tank or something might settle them down also
  3. looked like more, thats really gutsy on a public road.
  4. i think thats melteca not formica david? melteca is kitchen doors & panels & formica is benchtops.
  5. it was first here as food & became a pet but its still food growing up on a farm you quickly realise what farmed animals are for & how the population eats.
  6. ah this debate. pets that are commonly eaten as food are IMO, still food even if they become a pet. they have a better life than the average sheep & then they become food. Once it has stopped breathing it is then meat & no longer our pet. for this guy known as baby because he was the smallest lamb, he won't be eaten unless we really have to. there are 5 in line before him. on another note, i have a black lamb that jumps fences like no other sheep i have ever seen, she is firmly 1st in line to the freezer & would already be in there if we could catch the little menace when number 2 & 3 in line went to the yards.
  7. i just had a thought, go to a benchtop manufacturing company & get an offcut the size you need with one face laminated with formica for the base panel. that will last decades as a surface & water won't get through it. i'd be very surprised if they charge you for it as they would have to pay to dump it with the substrate being MDF.
  8. nice, we have suffolk that was butchered last week. PC's mates
  9. there are 5 others in line before this cool animal.
  10. i still have space in the freezer after 2 of his mates went in there, wouldn't be so bad.
  11. & the edges are where moisture does the most damage, MDF is not pourous so it absorbs moisture & holds it which causes it to go fluffy & deteriorate very quickly. extra sealing on the edges is very important & i would be using PVA with MDF & let it pour out the joins to also help seal it. i recommend dowels & confirmat screw assembly with plenty of glue & bracing. even seal the internal corners with silicone after.
  12. he was dressed this way for 15 mins or so, he is way to placid. we have to push him out of places he's not supposed to be as he has no fear of us at all. good & bad in all things
  13. indeed & long may it last 8) i am over common africans
  14. your vivarium??? won't get as hot as an oven tower so you'll be fine. the material itself will last, it depends on the brilliance applied when joining the mdf panels to how long the structure will last. MDF tends to separate or split as its a layered grain product so screws loose their holding capability so then its down to the glue.
  15. here is our pet sheep, its a 6 month old weather thats puts up with what ever my kids decide to do to it
  16. & provide a helmet for toilet partrons at parties A or B, not C or D 8)
  17. i would probably go with MDF if it was me, i am sure it would last fine. the price difference when buying full sheets is huge between ply & MDF, MDf should be around $35 per 16mm sheet where the ply will be around $90 for a 17mm sheet. the ply is alot stronger so it could be $1 either way on what to go with. the ply will last alot longer as it is stronger, over time glue & screw joins may work loose with the MDF.
  18. these are not good quailty pics & i had just fed them so there are plenty of crumbs in the water but here they are duboisi one of the pembas i just got, it is only around 6cm so still very small
  19. i have clowns in 1 tank & snails are prevelent in the filter only, in the tank there are none. the clowns wait eagerly at the front of the tank when i remove the canister for cleaning as i tip the snails in once i have drained the bucket. if the tank is small, like 30 to 40 litres maybe a skunk loach or 3 will do the trick.
  20. i am always keen for african soup but i wouldn't go that far. i would probably go with around 20 fish in total
  21. you think so? will be fine when they are small but as they get larger i would have thought this would be way too many. this tank must be 800x450x450 or similar?
  22. 140 litres is going to limit you really, the numbers will need to be kept to 10 or something like that so maybe only 2 species will be able to be kept as aggression won't be spread to well.
  23. not allowed to say retarded anymore, its spethal
