well... I'm getting a 420-odd litre tank in a few weeks (I hope - somebody buy the turtles!!!), so I'm looking for ideas of what to do with it! Do convicts get on well with plants? Or are they more of a rock & driftwood type fish? :lol:

Pity... That site was awesome! Well, seeing as it doesn't appear to exist anymore, I think I'll start one up! In a while (probably a month or so), I'll want images of plants, so I'll post asking for good clear pics of certain plants... If anybody has them, and doesn't mind me having the pic online (I'll give credit where it's due!), feel free to email me them!

Sweet thanks for that Alan Yeah, the mixture was REALLY dry yesterday, so I sprinkled a little water onto it... Possibly a bit much? I might see if I can get my hand on some more soil, and transfer the whole lot into an old ice cream container

Yeah, the camera's not half bad!! That's as close as I could get though, which is a pity, 'cause I can kind of see their legs when they're running around, but that doesn't show on the pictures

Specifically, whiteworms! I bought a culture from Hollywoods about a week ago, and so far, they appear to be breeding away (there's always some there when I lift the little rope square anyway!), but I've noticed these mite type things everywhere... I think it was referred to as Christmas Tree or something... There's a bunch of about 15 in my tank, I'll try to get some better pics of it later on

Excellent, so my tank's even bigger than I thought!! :lol: I was considering getting an Oscar or two, but nobody else at my flat likes them, so I think I'll go with the planted option

yeah it works out at about 105 US Gallons, which is 394.7 something litres.... 48" x 24" x 24" unless someone can prove me otherwise, I'm going to say it's 394 litres..

Hey that would be groovy!! I like that idea!!! Maybe a pile of rocks & driftwood with some holes to move into the dark area, and plenty of low-light plants would make the whole thing look really great wonderful!

Hey guys, great news! I've just been sold a 48"x24"x24" tank by one of my good mates, complete with Fluval 300 series filter, lights & stand! It was a turtle tank, but I'm going to be using it for freshwater. I'm thinking I'll leave the turtle ramp in, and possibly get some plants up on that level, and put some low-light plants underneath it. I'm planning on having it heavily planted, or not planted at all. What do you guys suggest I do with such a nice-sized tank? :lol: :lol: :lol: *edit* One too many :lol:'s!

Yeah Snowman, my tank is only 69 L, so 1.5mL is fine Right, I'll be off to the chemist when I'm able! At the moment, I'm just filling the lid to the first line, and using that....

Are the boys more narrow? (I'm guessing :lol:)

I think it was stunned by the flash... When I got even closer to the tank it swam away, so it's fine... :-? hehe Ah the delight of digital cameras! Anybody else keep glowlights? How do you find them? I've just read that they're not as inclined to shoal together as other tetras are... *sigh*

I'm not double-dosing Dawn, just normal dosing to encourage my plants to grow better, I'm just hoping the algae lawn stays there!!!

Hehe I know the feeling Ballistic!! I think the 'lawn' came with the wood (bought from Jansens Mt Albert from their sunk-wood tank/container-type-thing) ... I think it's going to go soon though, as I've just bought some Flourish Excel... Going to be hard to dose correctly though, as I need to add 1.5mL daily (I worked it out earlier...)!! Anybody know where to obtain syringe-type things without raising eyebrows and being interrogated?? :lol:

I've found both Jansens & Hollywoods to be good, one shop will have a really good selection, while the other doesn't seem to, and they appear to swap around! I've seen AWESOME males at Hollywoods, and nothing worth mentioning at Jansens one week, and the next time I go there, it's the other way around! *shrugs* go figure....

Fixed That was quick critter_guy!! Also - this is growing on the top of the driftwood I have in the tank... Right up at the top of the tank - it waves in the current and everything, the guppies seem to like picking at it, and at times I see the bristlenoses playing lawnmower... :lol:

What does everyone think of this? Everyone that's been to my place and seen it has loved it!
