  1. Hi Cath - you may want to take a look at a post of mine from a few years back HERE. I had a battle with black hair algae, and Crossocheilus siamensis did the trick pretty quickly - just make sure the tank is covered, as my fish attempted fishicide! -Nik

    Livebearer wiki

Just to let you know B&K, if somebody 'wipes out' a page (over-writes, deletes etc), it's always recoverable, just go to History, click on the radio button where the previous version was, and click 'compare'. From there, all you need to do is click 'rollback' and the page reverts back to what it was prior to the change Or, if that's too confusing, email me, and I'll fix it for you C'mon guys - I'd love to see this happen!!

    Livebearer wiki

absolutely - add whatever fish you can to the wiki First you need to register, so you need to click the link at the top right where is says If you want to make a new user, just type in a username (In the format UserName if at all possible), a valid email address & your real name (If you want), leave the password field blank and click the "Create new account" button. From there, if you want to create a new page, all you need to do is go to the Front Page, click the link I've created to the new page creator, and follow the instructions there. It's all very simple really, once you get your head around it. If you go to edit a page, you'll notice some buttons at the top. If you hover over those, they'll pop-up with what they do

    Livebearer wiki

Just to update - I've changed the address to www.nik.co.nz so if anybody would like to add their information to my wiki, go for it!

    Livebearer wiki

Yeah, I'm keen for the wiki to be for all fish, not just livebearers So register - it's free, and put in your two cents! Lets see where this can go
  6. Hey all - I've setup a wiki at http://www.nik.co.nz/wiki In case you don't know what a wiki is, do a google for wikipedia It's basically a community-supported knowledge base, where everybody (that registers) can write up their own information, and edit what others have said! Hopefully the idea takes hold for a few people, you'll be able to write up profiles of fish, even upload pictures to include them! Cheers Nik
  7. if you guys need, you can use space at my website www.nik.co.nz - there's nothing there anyway, I just use it to teach myself new things like php/mysql etc... SO if you'd like to host it at my site, just let me know [email protected] Nik

    New cichlid tank

I've just found another good read HERE

    New cichlid tank

Awesome Does anybody have a good website for info on Convicts?? How many would be a good number for my sized tank? Also - does anybody have any baby convicts they want to offload?

    New cichlid tank

I've got 2 bristlenoses, and purchased 4 khulii loaches about 6 months ago, but I've only seen 2 recently - they might still be around somewhere!! Would khulii's & bnoses be ok with convicts?
  11. I'm going to change my tank around, possibly re-stock the tank with cichlids, so I need to re-home my guppies! If anybody wants them, E-Mail me an offer, and we'll see what happens I've got at least 20 of them, and they just keep spawning, so there'll probably be more than that very soon! They seem to be mostly males, and I think they need some new genes introduced, as some of the females have weird spines, not that it inhibits them at all! I'll post some pics up - some of the males have awesome colours

    New cichlid tank

Hey all - I've got a tank lying around spare, it's about 30"x14.5"x15", so it's about 100L, and I was thinking about having cichlids in it, as I've not kept them before! What would y'all recommend, and suitable tankmates? Cheers
  13. It looks exactly like a 'sword' I bought from an LFS, turned out to be a Peace Lily... Keep an eye on it - if it NEVER grows, it's more than likely a Peace Lily, and you should remove it, 'cause it'll deteriorate and eventually die
  14. I've heard a very weak solution of potassium permanganate is helpful for removing snails etc from plants - but again, it needs to be very well rinsed so it doesn't kill fish!
  15. Only if they don't move fast enough! And those things move REALLY fast!!

    kuhli loaches

The only way I've found (online & in books) to sex them is that the female becomes 'monstrously fat' before dropping eggs. That's about it!
  17. You'd probably have more luck posting that question in the Planted section of this forum! But: Lilaeopsis works well if you've got a high-light tank, and good ferts etc... PlantGeeks is full of good info on plants

    Shark ADV

Anybody seen the new (to me) Shark internal filters? No more fiddling with getting the bits aligned so it all sticks together - it's got a magnet now! Makes things so much easier... I've got the Shark ADV 600 - series in my 100L aquarium, the sticker on the filter box said it was good for tanks up to 130L, so I'm fairly certain it'll go well

    hydra

I just squooshed the one hydra I discovered in my tank! Boyfriend wasn't so happy about it, as he's studying Marine Biology, and had just studied chlorohydra

    Guppy Tails

I think bumblebee gobies just bite anything that moves... I have been advised to actually not keep them with anything else, as they're poisonous for other fish to eat!!
  21. Not bl**dy likely  Not unless you want to replace it with one the same size, just with 10mm thick glass!
  22. Excellent - I'll go with the half-full approach then! Does anybody think Polypterus' would be able to get out of the tank if they've got 1' to go to get to the top of it??
  23. wonder if it's possible to get a breeding pair... *hopeful!*
  24. they're not cheap are they! How many do y'think I could get in a half-filled 48"x24"x24" tank?
