One of the suppliers has on his list ' Blue Melanochromis Johannii' So i assumed these were males but rang him to check and he said no both sexes are blue, all the fish are born blue, so i thought that they were born yellow and he reckons these arent the wild caught ones and have been bred specifically to be blue. Wouldnt he had to have crossed them with something to get them to all be blue? Or is it possible to have a pure strain of blue ones?

HEy I have a customer who has an approx 300L pond, it has no filtration (apart from a small water fountain), she was maintaining the algae by adding algae fix to the pond every fortnight and all the was well. Anyway she stopped adding the algae fix as she got busy, so its been about a month without it, now the algaes quite bad and all the fish ( 5xlarge comets) are all dead. I tested the water pH is at least 8.8, ammo 0, nitrites 0, nitrates 0, phosphates 0.5 Now im am asumming here the pH has killed the fish. I didnt know what to tell her to do to the pond to lower the pH, as ive never come across a pond with such high pH. Any suggestions???

Not sure, he said it was a pale yellow with its fins being a brighter yellow, also has a lyretail. Any ideas?

Hey All If ya in Animal Antics and you see a cichlid and you arent sure of its latin name, just rip the template off and it should be written on the back. I try to remember to write them on when i can the blue faced apisto has apistgramma inconspicua written on the back.

LOL i usually prefer to wait the cycle out but in a pet store im not allowed to let a tank be empty for that long. My home tanks i cycled with fish a couple fish for weeks and did it like that. Thanks anyway

i used TLC, its proven to break down ammo faster than stresszyme. the ammo etc levels were 0 anyway. I had heard that turtle urine can hurt fish but i dont know if this is true. i know ppl that have fish in WITH their turtles with no probs, aside from the turtles sometimes snacking on the fish.

yip same external filter - not cleaned out before adding (has been going the whole time) same gravel from the turtles so would have the bacteria in it, the water was new but i left it for 4 days and added good bacteria and aquasafe, water parameters were: pH 6.8, Ammo 0, nitrite 0, nitrate 0.

Moved from Diseases.. Mod Bill. I have fish in a turtle tank (the turtles arent in it), i did a complete water change and filled it up and added the water conditioners etc Can the turtles leave something in the tank to make fish sick? coz they (neons) are sick and dying.

The damsel still has the popeye but seems happy as larry, digging holes and eating well, so i have just left him for now. He just looks like hes wearing an eyeglass on one eye lol

I dont have a spare tank to transfer it in im afraid. its in with a green chromis and mushrooms. should i leave it and see what happens or chuck some furan in?

also if i wanted to make the water brackish for say mollies do i use tonic salt or the marine salt?

So in conclusion nobody really knows if there are any differences between tonic salt and coarse salt?

I know this question has probably been on here before but can some one please tell me how to kill it using "flourish"? I know you are supposed to double dose it? Do you use the "excel" or the "iron" Flourish? And it wont hurt any fish or other plants will it?
