that's all good and well, but do you have to fill up 5 pages on this post about it. the guy just wanted to know if there was something else on the market that wouldn't get so thrown about by the flow in his tank. and you didn't answer my question on how many problems you have had in your tank in the last two years? shell.
-
sorry to hear that fay i don't know if it will come back or not, but it is definitely worth giving it a go. why did ya move it? was it not doing well where it was? just lkeep a close eye on it. that sort of thing happens in the wild, when they get freaky tides, some coral's end up high and dry till the tide turns. good-luck shell.

layton why don't you just leave things alone, and just let everyone get on with what we think is right. if a bare-bottom tank works for you "good". if my sand-bed tank is thriving good. i for one am sick to death of reading your posts of "your right" scientists etc. all good tanks and long living tanks it all comes down to husbandry, if your sand-bed is cleaned often, how can it crash. and why haven't these guy's sand bed tanks that have been running for year's and were talking years crashed, could it be they are well maintained. how many times have you had problems with your tank in the last 2 years? me and my sand-bed have had none. shell.

i forgot, you must run air-lines.

don't forget to put some formulin or aquaflavin in with eggs,to stop the eggs from fuzzing up/fungi. 20L tank water,20L freshwater 80mls formulin, not sure the ammount of aquaflavin to use.

thanks for the great info guy's,WOW!!! 18mths till their big, can't leave my sump alone that long, last time i put my hand in there and pulled out pink stuff the little buggers crawled all over my hands, freaked me right-out.not that good with creepy-crawlies. there's only one thing to do and that's give it a go,got nothing to loose aye!! and yes alan it is shell, i know i should get my own postie thing, but this way it keeps you guessing aye!!!! thanks again guy's.

my cleanershrimp release a cloud of littlies every month or so. fish and coral's get a good feed, but some do make it to the sump. at first i thought the sump was running low and the tank was fill of itty bubbles, but when the fish started darting around chasing them i soon figured out why. there must be hundreds of them. next time i am gonna net some. anyone have an idea on what they might need to survive.

hi, i sent 6 frontosa babies up north via courier,over-night interislander. mid- morning next day guy emails to say "courier had stuffed up" sent them on the 2 day truck. they were packed at partners workplace, big bag's, 1 fish per bag, alot of oxygen and plenty of water, thanks to great packing and not to colder nights all 6 arrived 41hrs later. a bit dark in colour and abit sluggish but all alive. if that had been discus, wouldn't have been so lucky. heat packs in winter are a must. in summer however you need to becareful as if they get to hot the oxygen levels drop. i have shipped fish all over the country and this was the first stuff-up. i was very lucky. shell.

hi brite, is it stringy? kinda seethrou, just could be freaky poo  you shouldn't really run tropical fish and goldfish together. but in saying that i know a few people that do. shell.
-
tank looks great, your fish are gonna love it. let me know if you ever want some frontosa babies. tangi tanks are cool. shell.
-
hi, there is a wormey thing which hangs out in clusters around the anus. called camallanus,( seen on resting fish.) usually on livebearing fish, but can be transmitted to goldfish. shell.
-
hi, are you sure it's a female, might have a pecker to go with those 2 ball's  i have no idea, but if it's eating, swimming it should be alright.
-
hi, scale loss in goldfish can be caused by a parasite called myxosporidiosis, you can't kill it,but by doing lots of waterchanges you can get rid of it(vacume bottom). breeding can cause scale loss too. silver sharks being extremely flyty,i'd be looking at my water conditions, ph,ammonia, nitrate. larger fish usually show signs first. hope this is of some help. shell.
-
hi, just keep feeding surface food. there's not alot of silver arowana around that i have seen without one eye looking down. shell.

hi, frontosa don't reach breeding maturaty till 4-5yrs so i guess that has something to do with why they grow so slow. very much worth the wait. in my tank i have never noticed that male hormone thingie. the two colony's are all the same size, both males are alot bigger than the girls and the girl's are of equal size (7yrs) as with the males, they are still growing. they are in a 6-2-2, 9 adults. calcite substrate and dolimite rock, ph 8.4 hardness 20. when i work in the tank for any length of time my hand's come out quite white and rough. front's don't like the temp to hot 24-26max and hate fine air-bubbles eg. spray-bar running on surface of waterline.these are just some handy hints i've noticed over the years with these fish. i not long sent some up north, they were 2 day's in bag's(due to courier foul-up)should have been overnight delivery, thank's to fantastic packing and fine weather all 6 fronts were fine and are swimming around happily in their new home. 41hrs all-up, so definitely proves my theory on temp. you guy's are going to have alot of fun watching your front's grow, mystic your bubba's are growing well. shell

hi, you can't fix it,unless it is just starting to droop. if it is just starting you can try dropping the water level, only feed floating pellet, and remove any bottom dwelling - medium dwelling fish. hope this is of some help. shell.
-
hi glen, hole in the head is due to poor water quality,if your dad keeps up what he is doing he will be right. shell.

hi, yes all fish carry bug's and parasites,BUT some more than others.discus included. but when you have worked in a import quarinteen facility for a year or so you soon learn what fish bring in more problems, why do you think there is a shortage of them, very hard to bring through the six week quarinteen, and yes when you get them they are hopefully clean. but not before alot of work has gone into them. but yes they are not the only ones. there is alot of work/treatments etc that go into getting happy healthy fish in peoples aquariums. did you know fighters in singapore are kept in cut in half coke can's, and a kid is payed to walk up and down topping up and waterchanging till they are exported. shelley

hi, chocolate talking catfish,2 of them and snails gone in a fortnight. when they get bigger you might have to pass them on,as might eat neon etc. take along time to get big.had mine 5yrs,when i get new plants i just borrow one from the asain's tank, never seen him eat a rummy or cardinal and he is plenty big enough. and they croak like a frog, way cool. shell
-
hi, bad idea, fighters can carry all sorts of bug's and bacteria. but that is just my opinion, see what the others think. plus discus should be kept at high temp,28-30,other fish not generally happy at that temp.

that was a good read, surprised no one asked guy what substrate he was running, and no one picked up on the additives he is adding to his tank every waterchange he does, also this is the second time this has happened to him(around the 6mth mark) toxic overload. magnesium overload along with everything else, these poor fish are being poisoned slowly, that's why they are so small. at six months old my fry are about 2inch. shell.
-
back again, tell guy to check level's calcium/magnesium. all that buffering is probably the problem, 3-1 ratio. magnesium, potassium, sodium, calcium all good at right levels. but toxic if not. better to do it naturally.also if filter is old why use prime. "toxic overload"even 50% w/c will leave level's of these in the tank, then he treats tank again,go higher and so on and so on, just taken 6mths to reach overload.comp's might be fine now/but they could also have a higher tolerence to it. i have used african cichlid conditioner/once or twice a year, but only when i am getting tiny air-bubbles on edge of glass[protein]water getting abit soft. also scrubbing algae off rock's works just as good, letting the rocks add the nutrients the tank needs[scrub-off 1yr] frontosa's are so hardy, never lost one[touch-wood] have kulled a couple through not being quite right.[fry that is] and i did it humanly/quick. shell
-
hi herefishiefishie, frontosa's hate over oxygenated water, and also not fussed on temp 28. i run mine at 25-26.these fish are extremely hardy and very desease free. most little guy's hug the bottom, extremely shy fish when young. hardness of water pretty important and ph 8.2-8.4. sometimes food can be a problem, keep away from pellet till bigger. i'd suggest bring temp down slowly and can the air, only need a small bubble filter, plodding away slowly. and find out what he is feeding. frontosa's don't like big waterchanges neither. i w/c 6-2-2 once a month,1/3. fry once a week, never add buffer's as they don't break down. if the tank is set up right you don't need them. calcite/arganite substrate with limestone or dolimite rock, magnesium important to these fishies. and only need to feed fry twice aday[flake morning/brineshrimp night]. temp to high,to much air, food, water to soft[maybe] stressed front's will be dark in colour, almost black,to much food water will go soft quick, less food and smaller waterchanges/stop buffing tank as he will be poisoning the fry,6mths of buffing everyweek will be building up toxin's,set tank up right. desease i don't think so. hope this helps. shelley.

beautiful fishies, extremely good photocophy too. shell.
