  1. Heya Im a newbie to this section and have purchased a small setup via Trademe. It was a three foot tank with sump, rock, skimmer, and a magenta dottyback http://www.trademe.co.nz/Home-living/Pe ... 175065.htm Im going to pick up this weekend. Is there anything i should know when i try to move the set up. I'm gonna get something to hold water and try to save as much of it as possible. I think i will bag the fish and float it in one of my other tanks to keep the temperature stable. Also the owner says clean the skimmer weekly and change a bucket of water a month and bottled water top up. Is this realistic or just an exageration to make it sound simple. Hope to see and hear from you all. Kiran :bounce: Im sooo excited
  2. u just givin them the encouragement - right Shae
  3. I found two snails today in my tank. both had flats shells which were dragged rather that carried and were brown. They were 3mm and 2 mm across. I think they may have been from the wood i put in the filter (to lower the ph slightly) I did pour boiling water over it and soaked it.
  4. does anyone know what the clear stuff is? I am having a similar problem
  5. my khulis will never stay still enough for a photo like that - thats pretty cool :bounce: keep up the good work
  6. danios i have found do not bug my male betta at all although they will get to 6cms two more than neons theyre still pretty small. my other small favourite are some loaches - khulis and dwarf chains mollies and guppies - ide leave the guppies out if you get a male betta corys
  7. More pics My Betta One of my male dwarf gouramis The largest of the two glass cats the smaller glass cat My betta resting on a rock sorry about the small size and bad quality all are taken off a phone as i dont have a Digital Camera. Any feedback appreicated :bounce:
  8. my bad: misread - the discus arent in the tank yet  i still love that piece of wood
  9. Awesome tank i especially liked the tree trunk in the first pic but the discus look realy at home in your new tank
  10. Thanks for all your help. Tubes will probably be the way i go - three or four 20W tubes Also after a bit of inspection i noticed my pearl danios have whiskers - is this normal for all or just for males or females? I also found a snail in my tank today and it was very much alive :-? im unsure of where it came from but ill keep a sharp lookout for anymore
  11. Indian fern is a favourite. it grows well under most conditions floating or planted - I like it better planted. Hairgrass - If you have a shallow tank and moderate lighting is great to fill space in the foreground and is easy to grow - just spread it out. Polysperma- great background plant not hard to grow crypts - I have a green Wedtni (spelling lol) and is is growwing really well under my less than average lighting. 8) Good luck
  12. I feed lettuce and other vegetable matter like occasionally some apple. I like giving my fish the variety. frozen bloodworns are second after fresh/live and flake are a staple part of the diet.
  13. I know but just if 4sticks gets the time or happens to be there 8)
  14. it may slightly harden the water i would think (i have no experience though) but it think it would be safe to say not as much as coral sand - although that is fairly obvious
  15. do ya think if i was to upgrade to MH on my tank would 150W be overkill on 100L? the danks dimensions are 90*30*38 LWH other wise would 70W or something like that be better. I have seen the 55W T5 tubes but they are all too long to fit under my hood. I will try get some more pics up soon
  16. I would guess 25% per month is probably not really enough water changes especially with no fitration. Lots of people do 20% or more weekly. Also you might want to wait a little while till the weather warms up and this may trigger them to breed. Just a guess, hope it helps :bounce:
  17. forgot to say the inhabitants are 2 longfin leopard Danios } 3 longfin Zebra Danios } --- Thanks to Mystic 3 Pearl Danios } 2 Pairs of Dwarf Gourami } Thanks to Zev 1 Red Betta 2 Glass Catfish } Thanks to Timtam22 4 Khuli Loaches Now that im stocked im going to concentrate on the plants and upgrade my lighting. :bounce:
  18. Well I finally got some pictures. They are off a cellphone so theyre not overly great quality but this is what ive done with my tank. An Overview of the tank One of my male gouramis that I picked up from Zev :bounce:
  19. i dont think your supposed to post buisness details openly :-?
  20. I went to wonderworld and i thoroughly reccommend it. Its really been set up well and well mantained
  21. my guess would be silicone. Use aectic cure. Sellys makes aquarium safe silicone that you can get from a hardware store or ussually you can get some from the LFS. If you go to the hardware store just make sure it says its safe for aquariums. :bounce:
