  1. I guess if you put enough gravel over it and it outwieghs the woods bouyancy an ice cream container lid could work. I guess it depend on the size and bouyancy of the wood. Good thinking you might want to give that a try :bounce:
  2. I have switched to a energy saving bulb which the plants seem to love. I sold my angels (after they ate 2 of my neons) and now have 5 Neons - just recovered from whitespot :bounce: 4 Glowlights 1 BN Catfish 1 Kuhli Loach - I love the way it swims :bounce: I might look to get a Betta as the top level of my tank is very empty. Thanks for everyones feedback.
  3. I read somewhere that it is not actually the bubles in the water it is the ripples on the surface that increase the area over which oxygenation can occur. But airstones are good for helping to create water flow to avoid hotspots A hang on back filter with waterfall return is great to help oxygenate :bounce: Keep us updated
  4. my tank is 70L and sitting at 26/27oC I have put in 'Aqua plus helps protect and heal scales' I'm guessing this helps to produce slime. There are less spots from this morning so maybe this is working. I'll give it a few days if it gets worse again i'll use med. Thanks for all the feedback
  5. One of my neons has developed white spot. I have been reading about salt+heat. Is this suitable for a community tank with neon glowlights a kuhli loach and a BN catfish. If so how much salt to water is it. Otherwise i'll just get a med for it.
  6. i really like what you've done with the tank 8). Keep up the good work and keep us posted :bounce:
  7. Well I've had my first aquatic homocide I didnt feed my fish this morning and the Large angel ate half of one of my neons. I was told and knew that they were incompatible but i saw many people with them (both) The CSI (me  ) have concluded it was attacked as it was floating - the motive was probably hunger. I have left them without feeding before for a day and they were fine but lately the large angel is chasing the other angel. I think i might have to sell.
  8. currently have that 'warm white' but i'm working on saqving for a proper lights and fittings. i have found that plants grow quite well under the current light.
  9. thats what i think it should be like but it definitely does what i showed in the first pic
  10. what i really dont understand is why the water pretty much does a boycott of the sponge. see image (red is the water flow) S is sponge and C is Carbon cartridge Also if i take out the carbon im guessing that alot of bacteria live in there would that mean more water changes untill it settles again?
  11. it says it is in really good quantlity. Is that quantity and quality in one?
  12. Iquite dont think a P*t head would take the time to think of that
  13. will the local wool shop probably have this (otherwise does anyone know where in Wgtn) and are all varieties ok to use in the aquarium?
  14. Ok ill will take out the carbon but the filter sponges are quite coarse so is there anything i could put in the cartridge to remove the finer dirt?
  15. Does any one know if animalz in mirimar is any good?
  16. Is that possible? :-?
  17. Sorry i got it wrong it is a sicce filter cartridge. one of these I had a replacement and there was grey/black stuff comming out of it which i thought was carbon (unless it is) So this could change things a bit. I got the carbon idea because it said carbon cartridge on the animates product barcode.
  18. it a 35cm x 35cm base and 50 high. I need to get the whole thing (bulbs/fluros and the thing you plug them into) as far as lighting goes because im currently just using a household lamp. I was wondering what range i should cover as well. I brought those plants from Animates Kaiwharawhara. I should have brought them from Trade me as they were quite expensive.
  19. I've had a look around some soures tell me 2-3 months the LFS 1 and a half months. I'm not too sure. It is for a shark internal filter. I think im over due im at about 2- 3 months now. Thanks for all help
  20. Thanks Caper 8) My next expedition will be getting a proper aquarium light What range fluro should i get? I read plants need blue and red-orange I have just got enough money for one :bounce:
  21. Will upload some more pics later but here is my bristlenose on a pea - you can see in the corner in the mesh bag the old gravel A Blurry photo of my tank after the gravel change. You can see the neons and glowlights (none of which have ever been eaten by the two Angels) and my angels Neons and a glowlight My pride and joy I have taken out the Gravel bag after 2 weeks and have got two new plants: a cabomba - remindes me of La Bamba, and an amazon sword. The other new plant was a dwarf amazon sword plus the unknown one on the left. There is also a new rock. Hopefully these will grow tall for a back ground feature - the plants not the rock
