    Lost!

They can be good hiders sumtimes and when you panic you miss things :-? They tend to hang around on the bottom or on the glass so the cat would have had to reach in probably which i dont think it would have done. Mind you every cat is different. If ya do have a cat around a cover on the tank might be a nice guard for your fishies
  3. iM not going to even show mine after Paul went first. Mine have nothing on his
  4. Mine are always out. Just plant a few low growing plants such as crypts. This made them come out a lot more.
  5. I find that if you buy from someone who bred them they are much healthier. I brought mine like this and have had no problems with them
  6. Have heard that the jebo 819 (I think that is the model) is a good cannister filter.
  7. Someone made a post on here less that a year ago and they had some i think, So they are here as Alan said.
  8. Will tell him that but while your away and know one is checking will it be okay off
  9. Heya I have been asked by a mate who is going away about feeding and stuff while away. I told him that the fish should be fine a week without food if he fed them up and did a 30 - 40% water change. The lights would be on timer. He asked about the heater he said it was old and had been having problems with it a bit. So Would it be ok to leave this off at this time of year in Welly? The tank is 90 Litre Thanks in advance :bounce:

    Help me!!!!

sealed with holes :-? They can probably squeeze through small holes anyway. Maybe a mesh box?
  11. Rainbowfish are asian. Depending on the size of the tank Honeys and Dwarfs G's are good in small tanks but tend to get bullied by bettas. Large Gouramis may bully the betta. Glass Cats are great in a school they require a few or them to keep them happy I read that and some people have problems with the bamboo as it breaks down. Might pay to do some research. THat was what i planned to do my tank like but it didnt turn out like that lol Good luck with the tank and keep us posted
  12. http://www.fnzas.org.nz/plant_survey/aq ... 4fe5d01fee according to that it is a Class B Noxious Weed
  13. They are probably not enough for hime gannet. Try getting some flat sotnes and build a few more caves
  14. The myriophyllum propinquum is a class B noxious weed does that mean you cant keep it?
  15. Thats a nice piece of wood. 'less dramatic as i would have liked' Lol it could turn out to be very dramatic it is a very interesting piece. Keep us updated
  16. Awesome tank. I wish my plants grew like that  The green pine looks really nice.
  17. would love to see some pics. It sounds awesome
  18. THanks guys The pond proabably cannot fit a bail of hay way too small. probably 120*40*50 LWH. Unfourtunately the pond is sunk into the ground. Cant really start a siphon :-? We will try to get the plants growing a gain and the pump running. Another thing usually the pump runs the sponge filter but the pump is only ussually on for decoration. Does this need the run 24/7?
  19. Thanks Caryl I will tell her that. It probably gets a lot morning to midday sun. How often should we chuck the hose in and does the water need dechlorification. At one stage the lillies were covering over half of the pond. I will try to see when we can get the pump fixed
  20. Whats the deal with ponds I went to clean my aunts pond out for her today. it is a good 200 - 300L pond. I started by emptying the pond. I found the water at the bottom so dirty that it was almost black. Unfourtunately the birds had discovered that the fish made tasty treats and there were only two fish left both 8 - 10cm and black. One fantail and one normal. There were also a load of pond snails which had algae growing on their shells and looked like japanese moss balls. I scrubbed the sides until no algae was to be seen and then rinsed it out again. I then filled it. The Fish were in a bucket (she insisted that they could handle) They were gapping at the surface so i tried to cool them down by floating the bucke in the pond. We then sorted out the plants. The Oxygen weed, chinese ivy (Cardamine) i think :-? and the Lillies. We potted them and set them up. The pump was broken and this ussually runs a sponge filter. She didnt want ot put a net over it to stop the birds. The problem is this. In a few weeks time it will probably be starting to go back to the way it was. So how do people keep the pond with a limited amount of algae? Do you do water changes every few weeks to clean out the detrius so it doesnt have a chance to break down break down or do you use algae killing products. Please share the light
  21. yea thats pretty much right I lernt in school that Endemic - not found anywhere else and Native - Naturally occurs here but may be found elsewhere. Eg. Albatross
  22. Heard that was wide bodied fish most mine are all small and quick the only thing it could cling onto would be the betta.
  23. I Finally got some pictures of my tank and its inhabitants. It is all asian both the plants and fish. When i set this up i didnt have a job as exams were comming up and being short on cash used pumice in the filter a big mistake as all the plants i brought got covered in algae and the glass used to get dirty quickly. Since the plants have grown back and the algae is pretty much under control. I still get Black beards algae growing but the flourish is helping cut it back. The tank is a 90 x 30 x 38 LWH (100L) which i brought off trademe for 90 bucks which came with a hood and light fitting. The filter is a second hand Fluval 204 also from Trademe The substrate is fine gravel from the beach I have JBL balls under the crypt and Sword and use Leaf Grow and Flourish excell weekly The hardscape materials are a large rock and driftwood from otaki Forks and other rock from the beach The plants are: A Borneo sword which i thought was dead until it sprouted new leaves Ambulia Crytocoryne which has sprouted numerous babies (can some one help me identify it you can see the babies in the picture of the wood and moss) Hygrophilia Polysperma Java Moss Java Fern Hairgrass Lots of Indian Fern The Stock is: 1 Red Betta 2 Glass Catfish 3 Dwarf Gouramis 4 Kulhi Loaches 1 Golden Algae Eater 8 Harlequins Rasboras An Overview of the Tank The Siamese algae eater which is great at clearing up the excess algae The new Growth comming through on the polysperma The Borneo Sword which i though was dead The larger glass catfish A kuhli in the indian Fern A blurry picture of a dwarf gourami The java moss which sits between the rock and the large peice of wood Another Dwarf Gourami Its still a work in progress the polysperma and the ambulia need to grow higher before i can take the backing paper ($2 from the warehouse). Any suggestions welcome :bounce:
