  1. Paintshop pro is a great program. Also could try http://www.gimp.org/
  2. Fins have spots, but gills look fine. No swelling or bleeding, so I don't think it's velvet. Over 6 months, never had a problem with her. Apart from eating the cleaner shrimp I tried to introduce a week ago! Her mate seems ok.
  3. I'm pretty sure, at this point though I'm willing to consider anything. She does have several spots but is not completely covered, her eyes have gone cloudy and she's not really moving.
  4. Meaning move her and dip external to tank? GRRR, I hate this!
  5. I'm considering copper treatment to get rid of an Ich problem. I've been treating with Salifert stop parasite for the last week, feeding garlic, upping regular feeding and doing water changes. All of this looked to be moving things in the right direction. I understand it's a lenghty process and that things sometimes look better and then get worse. This morning I find my female clown on the bottom of the tank, breathing heavily and eyes milky. She's not taking food either. I'd hate to loose any fish, but she's paired and that just makes it worse! I don't have any inverts nor plan to keep any in the current tank. I'm worried about the impact on corals and life rock. I'm moving house in the next few weeks, and part of the move would include an upgrade to a new 5 footer, so I'm not worried about copper leftovers in the physical tank. Please, any feedback would be greatly appreciated!
  6. I try to match my tank temp. Mix from warm water (seems to make ASW dissolved easier) and by the time it's all mixed the temp usually matches quite well too. Might try cold after all these comments though.
  7. Yes Jimmy, that's your crazy mofo fish!
  8. Thanks, unfortunately it won't be around for much longer. I discovered the front panel is pulling off the bottom bracing, and will be replacing the tank. Current tank is 1000 x 500 x 700, new tank will be 1500 x 600 x 600. Stand will be modified, and hopefully most plumbing can be scavanged for new tank. Should be an interesting couple of weeks
  9. In your opinion, would stretching to the 7095 be worthwhile over the 7091? Streams will be the next thing to start spending on.
  10. That's way cool Tel, do you have a shot of the entire tank, topdown view?
  11. I've confirmed with the tank builder that 3 cross braces will be enough. It's now just a question of positioning the overflow to not be too far from the side (for access) and not be covered by a brace.
  12. Actually it's an upgrade from a 3 footer (now the sump) that had been running for a while. Was nice to meet you too, good to put a face to a name for once!
  13. It is, 700 deep on a 700 stand. I have to take my shirt off everytime I have to do something on the bottom as I get soaked. Never again thanks!
  14. These are some random shots of my current tank. It was finished just over 2 weeks ago. Curing some rock Plumbing done (or is it!!!) The aftermath First evening up and running Some stock
  15. Well let's not get ahead of ourselves Thanks for the pic, where did you get your unions from?
  16. Originally I thought have having the overflow drilled at the bottom i.e. the bottom glass panel. Now I've realised that the stand's beams are going to be in the way, and so the overflow will be drilled in the back panel. There will be a main drain and a backup drain higher up the overflow. Yes all true, however one can be limited by both the pipe diameter and the linear overflow size, at least that's what I've gathered from the reefcentral calculator. What I was getting at was that I need to make sure the linear overflow size is enough for my needs, as I know the piping will be ok. Bubs
  17. Should really clarify this. The size of the overflow is no longer determined by the size of the plumbing. It really comes down to how small I can make it (i.e. visually appealing) and still have it perform well enough. For performance, my personal preference is to not exceed 10x flow through the overflow and sump. I tried this with my current tank by pushing over 4000 l/hr through a 350L tank and didn't like it. Prefer adding a couple of streams or powerheads for more flow/current, and positioning them as needed. Bubs
  18. I've realised that due to stand design I won't be able to have to bulkheads at the bottom of the overflow. So the overflow dimensions give me 560 mm of linear overflow, or almost 5500 l/hr. Plenty IMHO.
  19. I've decided to go for an iternal overflow, about 130 x 300 x 560 is size. It'll be about 1/4 from the right hand side of the tank, making access a bit easier, and not being in the corner will also provide larger linear overflow too. Any thoughts? Bubs
  20. Another option would be a fish trap. Some forum members here may be able to lend you one.
  21. Are you using 2 nets? Get another one if you're not, it'll be the best $3 you ever spend. Use one net for herding it into a corner, then trap it with both. Damsels are a PITA to catch, I once wasted a whole Sunday afternoon trying to catch a Humbug. I have no love for that fish!
  22. Drifty: Any pics? Would be really helpful! Internal box overflow centered on the back panel seems the way to go. The only things that worries me is access as the tank will up against a wall. Especially as the returns will be coming through as well LOL, this is upgrading from my current 100 x 50 x 70 that's only been up for 2 weeks. Must be some kind of record upgrade Bit of an emergency is I've discovered that the front panel is slowly pulling away from the bottom bracing. Also, thoughts on starfire glass for the front panel (or heck even the sides)
  23. I'm speccing a new tank, and would like some input on the overflow design. The tank is being custom made, so I'd like something done properly that has more visual appeal than simple triangular corner overflows. At the moment I'm leaning towards a box shaped overflow, centered on the back panel. This would serve as a overflow and have the plumbing for the return. Any thoughts or other design ideas? Also Duke, how are your's working out? I did like the minimilist look of it. Bubs

There's a lot of IT professionals here (myself included). There's no reason we couldn't make an online version? Platform independent, centralised data storage. It wouldn't be very difficult. Bubs
