  1. Mine's been ordering Hell's Pizza lately. Move along folks, nothing to see here
  2. Should be fine, unless you're keeping something odd. I'm thinking boxfish etc that leach toxins if stressed. These moves tend to be more stressful to the owner than to the livestock. I've had a FO tank go 4 days without power, and pull through just fine. Just take your time, be prepared, and you'll be fine. Bubs!
  3. Sheesh, I was barely allowed into the garage the times I've come over!
  4. What JDM said. Estimate how much time you think it's going to take, then double it
  5. I get the feeling the like Clowns
  6. I see, thanks for clearing that up
  7. According the Q&A on the auction the tank water and hatchery water don't mix. Bit of a monstrosity to have in your display tank though but then again should suit your aquascaping
  8. Could be helpful http://www.reefkeeping.com/issues/2004-09/rhf/index.php
  9. http://www.arcadia-uk.info/ Depends on the manufacturer's definition of blue, so it usually pays to double check this
  10. Arcadia is a brand of lighting equipment (inc bulbs), like Sony is a brand of electronics equipment Actinic is the name given to lights that output a certain color spectrum.
  11. For goodness sake, like the last thing you need is more growth!!
  12. This explains it better. http://www.marinedepot.com/md_viewItem.asp?idproduct=YSP5573 Important Note: The permeate pump is only effective when used with a bladder storage tank. Use of permeate pump does not have any advantage when being used with tanks or sumps open to atmosphere. So basically what you said Warren
  13. So theoretically something as simple as a valve on the permeate side could provide the back-pressure? For such a simple device it appears to be quite handy
  14. http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=77815185 I bowed out early
  15. Anyone use these in conjunction with their RO units? http://www.advancedwaterfilters.com/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=AWF&Product_Code=ERP-1000 I'm particularly interested in the claimed 'Reduces drain wastewater by up to 80%'
  16. Couple days late http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=554786 Well worth the read
  17. Holy cow, that's almost my entire display  If it were me I'd try to get that 1inch overflow height down a bit. The lower this is the more 'efficient' your surface skimming will be. I have a 60cm overflow (15 x 30 x 15 box), pushing about 4000L through it. My overflow height is about 1cm. Theoretically this makes a difference, and comparing it to my old tank I'd say it's true. Looking forward to it.
  18. I would suggest bigger is better, but do keep in mind that 50mm will have a large impact on your plumbing costs. This is also a large amount of flow to have going through your sump, so make sure you can also handle it at that end. Linear length of your overflow would also have to be looked at. How big is the tank and sump?
  19. My sump is my old 3 footer, so no baffles and fluctuating water level can be a pain for skimmers. Having the tank drain into a bucket you also have 'dirty' tank water directed towards your skimmer pump inlet. Be aware though that if your return stops you can run the skimmer pump dry, so I just have the skimmer return water back to the bucket to make sure it's always full. Another option would be to install a float switch that turns the skimmer pump off if the water level drops. Certainly was well worth the $10 spend at plastic box Would recommend to anyone wanting to improve skimmer performance. Ofcourse if your skimmer is gravity fed then this is all N/A
  20. Aaaaw, schucks! There's an awesome reefcentral thread by Anthony Calfo on skimming. Well worth the 40 plus pages and covers standard configuration mistakes, tuning info etc. Have it bookmarked at home so will dig up the link tonight. My Berlins are very sensitive to changes in pressure. So something simple like having your display drain go into a bucket, and then having the skimmer pump in the bucket means that the pump has constant head pressure. Made a huge difference in skimming. Anyway, the thread has some great tips.
  21. There is, but I haven't had coffee yet so will have to dig up the reference. EDIT: http://www.reefkeeping.com/issues/2006-08/rhf/index.php#21 I run both wet and dry for this very reason.
  22. Ooooh that was terrible, and I almost bought that angel too.

    Tank Regime

I haven't started using RO/DI yet (have the unit but need some fittings), so I use it to help with the 'pure' tapwater. Also, I only use a little bit at a time. It's good stuff IMHO but like you said not cheap. I've used an alluminium based P04 remover and my soft corals hated it, so Rowa is worth it just for that.

    Tank Regime

Thought I'd get a thread going where people post what and when they do things to their tanks. Would be interesting to look at the different ways we all manage our tanks. I'll go first 540L tank + 60L sump - Water change - 10% weekly ASW Red Sea - Prodibio Biodigest - 1 ampule forthnightly - Prodibio Bioptim - 3 ampules forthnightly - Prodibio Strontium - 1 ampule weekly - Prodibio Reef Boost - 2 ampules per week - Iodine - 10 ml per week - Bag of carbon - change every 4 weeks - Bag of rowaphos - change every 4 weeks - Calcium and alkilinity supplements - CA Reactor - 8L per day fresh water topoff - dosing pump on timer - Skimming - 2 x Berlin classics (about to be pimped, but that's a whole new thread) EDIT: Clean collection cup every other day - Clean front glass - every other day Post away people.
