  1. That would be considered a very young tank. I would leave it and just let things run their course. Unsightly algae is something we've all had to suffer through, but it will go away.
  2. Ok, how long has the tank been running?
  3. Ever noticed how many photos on here include toes. We can almost turn it into a drinking game

1 x 400 and 1 x 250 off a single timer. Seems fine so far for a $10 supermarket timer but who knows. I will run my actinics on a seperate timer once I have a chance to set them up.

I don't use a temp controller, though I am keen to get one. At the moment ny fan is hooked up to the same timer that kicks off my halides. Seems to keep temp around the 26-27 range. Last night I ran my top-up for 5 hours, which is 15L. Still seemed a little short this morning.

Hmmm, I need to go to plastic box to get some larger containers then

Yeah I have started running a fan to keep temps down. Increase in evap rate started about the same time. I thought it was due to the temperature increase, which is ofcourse why I started running the fan

    Evaporation

With summer here I've noticed my evap rising over the last few weeks. At the moment I'm putting about 12L / day into my 600L system. Is this about par for the course?
  9. This is what I have too, and it works very well. Interesting side effect: if the safety does get used due to a primary blockage, it's really loud. Made my hair stand on end once coming home and hearing that noise
  10. I run mine in a sock in my canister filter. Perhaps it's not as potent as fluidising it I would think.
  11. How does it clog pumps? In my 600L system I use the recommended amount for a 400L system. This seems to work well (for both the tank and the wallet )
  12. Worth mentioning that it's not that canister filters are bad, just that your current media is not the best for a marine system. The filters do have their uses for running other media though, like carbon and phosphate remover. Bubs!
  13. Thought I'd get a thread going on the best and worst things that have happened to people's tanks over the past year. WORST: Losing more fish that I would have liked BEST: Getting a larger system and actually growing acros. Lets hear it folks

  15. Very nice, please post more photos as you progress
  16. Hmmm, looks like a 4ft flouro on top, so I'd say: 220 x 60 x 70. Could also just be the perspective, but looks like a bow-front, though the base of the stand appears straight.
  17. Could just be the angle, but it looks a bit bigger
  18. My office mates pinned it to my whiteboard

    Cool Photo

Haha, so that's what you crazy kids call it these days, 'kite fishing'
  20. Got links to the creatine articles? Would be interested too. Hehe, one spoon for me, one spoon for the tank
  21. I think it's the exception to the rule. What were not seeing here is all the people who've lost a mandarin due to not having an established tank. Being so cheap and so beautiful is the major issue with these fish. LFS always sells out, yet not many people have them for very long. Saw a recent reefcentral poll on survival rates, and it's pretty poor. I don't own one yet for that very reason. Every night after the lights go out I've got the torch out, chanting "go pods, GO!". Almost there, can't wait!
