  1. You never know you're luck, I picked up my 150W DE for $66.00!!
  2. Good advice!! Here's a kicker, I recently picked up a 150W DE unit with 'marine' bulb. Turns out it's only 3K!! I wasn't too fussed because the unit was cheap, but what got me was the this was recommended to the seller for their tank by an expert!
  3. Is the Chalk Bass recently bought from Jansens? If so I've got their little sibling Neat little fish! Great coral pics, thanks for sharing!
  4. I can so get banned for commenting on that!!
  5. Power went out at 8:30. I'd put in a day of annual leave so luckily was home, but not the nice long weekend I'd hoped for! Whole system was down for about for maybe 3 hours. Nothing makes my hair stand on end like a tank just sitting there. I went and bought a $100 generator from the Warehouse. It's only 650W but still managed to run my heater, skimmer, return, flouros and in tank powerhead. Only item that didn't go was the halide. I guess that raises an interesting question, if you don't have enough grunt to run all your kit, what would you have to triage? I'd say temperature and circulation would be top of my list of things to maintain.
  6. I suggest: "well lets see some unreal reef tanks"

    fish loss

10 fish over the last year, lost 3 (2 died and 1 vanished) and traded 1 for store credit

    Cool Video

Was wondering about the pronunciation myself actually. The reason for wearing gloves was obviously really valid, but I couldn't help but notice that he goes about touching everything on the workbench (including scratching his face at one point) Also goes to show just what can be done to these animals, as long as they go back into a tank that can support them.

    Cool Video

http://www.zooxanthellae.com/borneman.wmv Dial-up users may want to consider using a download manager with resume capibilities, as the video weighs in at just over 300 MB. It's Eric Borneman doing an 1 hour, 10 minute workshop on coral fragging. I haven't watched the whole thing but the bits I did see seemed interesting (well at least to me they were)

    Some photos

Looking good Ben, thanks for sharing. BTW: That's secret code for 'I want frags'

    My turn!!

Awesome pics, and thanks for the bulbs

    A few pic's

    Lost for words!
  13. Depends on your definition of "crash" I suppose. A well run nano is just as stable as any sized tank, however it does take a certain amount of skill which may be offputting to a novice. With such a small volume of water it can be difficult to take corrective measures (which usually involves a water change)
  14. Not the 901 I know, and most might be a tad surprised. I'll let the master answer himself
  15. It's ok, if you're into that sort of thing
  16. Ah yes, this phenomena is ofter referred to as the warm tank, frosty partner syndrome We've all been there!

    Power outage

Make sure you push them hard for credit. I suffered a 4 day power cut earlier in the year, and even then they put up a real struggle. Got there in the end though.
  18. Unless the 6060 comes with a mop it's probably not the best. However, the 6000 with controller makes a lot more sense as I can turn it down But seriously the 301 aquaclear looks more suitable.
  19. Oh no, he uttered the forbidden word!
  20. Yeah there the ones from Mitre 10. Price / performance wise they're very good, except for the noise. I've got 8 of them Would people really consider running streams on a 3 foot tank, it's only 130L in the main tank. I'm getting some for 350L tank though.
  21. I'm using 3 x 800 LPH Nova powerheads in my 3 foot at the moment. They're hooked up to a red sea wave maker, and with all the on/off switching I've noticed that they've gotten a bit noisy lately. No biggy on the pumps as they were cheap, but it is a little annoying. I'm after something small, discreet and fairly grunty, the Eheim 1212 looks interesting. What's everyone else using for tanks this small?

    Light Hanger

Ok found this. http://www.growell.co.uk/p/1520/Ezi_Roll_Light_Hangers.html They pretty much work the way I thought they did. Something to add to the shopping list for the new pendent.

LOL It's the only way to cope with my crappy coral growth! Wonder if SOG should start offering a discount to members here. Almost like and LFS by proxy!

    Light Hanger

Sorry, the included link was a google hit that had both a picture, and more descriptive text of what the unit does. I just linked to it for clarity. SOG have it listed under Store -> Electrical Items -> Easy Roll Light Hangers Set of 2 Please not I'm not affiliated with SOG at all, I just find some of their stuff handy for my DIY lighting projects.

    Light Hanger

Was looking through the Switched On Gardener site and noticed these: http://www.hydroasis.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=H&Product_Code=4330000&Category_Code=22 This link is obviously not to the SOG site, however it does have better text and the image right there. Anyone tried these? Looks like they're a DIY reflector godsend!
