How many LEDs on your casefan? These have 4, but yes, just getting the LEDs may be a better alternative.

    Moonlight

Been looking at these wondering if it could be used for a DIY moonlight effect. http://www.pctronix.co.nz/product_info.php?cPath=43_50&products_id=3222 The idea is not novel, but a couple of things to consider. - For the LEDs to be closer to the tank, the airflow will be up and away from the tank surface i.e. it'll suck air away from the surface - How many would be neededd for a decent amount of light on a 5 foot tank. I'm thinking of doing a 2x3 bank and mounting them between my lumenarc reflectors. Any thoughts?

    Venturi

Totally hear where you're coming from. I'm looking at the Beckets as a bolt on replacement for my Berlin venturis. To be honest, I can't be @rsed to DIY the actual venturi, so it seemed like a cheap enough upgrade. I've also heard that spapool venturis can be quite useful.

Maybe we can get a show of hands if people are interested in piggy-backing a shipment

    Venturi

I'm interested in getting a couple of these http://www.marinedepot.com/md_viewItem.asp?idproduct=KM2851 However, I'm not keen to clip the US$70 delivery fee for such a small item. Anyone know of a local supplier of these? Cheers
  6. Why? 30W more power consumption for same output. Is it deathly silent? Will I hear my girlfriend complain over the hum of the pump
  7. If I give you my phone number, would you mind ringing my girlfriend and explaining that to her? If this is a common issue with these pumps, can anyone recommend a more quiet pump. Bubs
  8. Possibly. The pump was purchased second hand, but had never been used. Mind you, it was from a very, very dodgy individual!
  9. I use a L6 for my sump return and it's vibrating/humming quite badly. I've tried putting filter wool under its mounting foot but doesn't seem to make a difference. Thoughts on fixing this are: - Thicker poly under the sump to absorb the vibration - Removing the mounting foot so that the pump is suspended in the water (though am a bit worried that the plumbing may then rattle) Have also noticed that from time to time the pump starts sucking air (sump is a bit small), which cause the vibrations to stop. Any thoughts would be welcome.
  10. Duke, I'll have a 350L tank spare by the end of next week. You're welcome to borrow it if need be. Bubs
  11. The topic was pretty well covered here: http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=452d4e6dcec57929c6e0989c58fe5cf0&threadid=903403 and some mods: http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=452d4e6dcec57929c6e0989c58fe5cf0&threadid=898776 Have a read and decide for yourself. I have no personal experience with them. Bubs
  12. Are they nosey? Or will the fine once the manufacturer mails you some replacement parts?
  13. Dammit Steve, beat me to the punch! Wonder what the reserve is? Only problem I see with them is how to sneak them past the wife!
  14. To me it came down to how I view my tank. It's not in-wall, so I went large single overflow as I didn't want to spoil the side views with overflows. Access is a potential issue, so I offset mind more towards the right of the tank (about 1/3rd).

You'll only regret it in the long run, PM me and I'll come take him off your hands Very nice!!
  18. Couldn't agree more Exactly - should use them for DE but the distinction between DE and SE is not made. I believe a novice could be left with the wrong impression.
  19. Article is ok, but the section on UV screens for MH lamps can be a bit dangerous if interpreted the wrong way. No-one likes a trip to A&E, or killing all their livestock
  20. A true master of the arts! I'll have to come and take a look at your setup sometime puttputt. My setup can do with a bit of a rethink at the moment, and my upgrade/move is coming up soon.
  21. http://www.aqua-medic.de/en/service/pdfs/KR%20400%20_410.30_.pdf Is this the same as what came with the reactor? Page 4 talks about drip rates etc.. I'm setting up the 1000 model and will also use the Tunze regulator. Still have to source a cylinder though, where did you get yours from?
  22. It's definately giving my some ideas for how to setup mine. Thanks for sharing
  23. That looks way cool! Question: Why put the ballasts on the metal frame? Keeps them out of the way but I'd be concerned about the extra weight, and the heat from the bulbs.
  24. Good luck and please post pics. I'm getting one this weekend and would be keen to see how you did the mounting of yours. Would also be very interesting to have some comparison pictures a few months after the upgrade.
  25. Well how about that. Always wondered if that was possible, and now I know. YOINK! Thread just got jacked I think
