  1. Actually, don't worry about it. I've found much needed info on Google. However, it says Rams would prefer slightly soft water. Will they be affected in my tank?
  2. Hrm, I remember Rams. Any links please?
  3. But what are Aspistos? Are they peaceful?
  4. I know they are common, but they look quite nice and are quite peaceful. My tank currently looks pretty much orange and black, as I've got Swordtails, Clown Loaches, Tiger Barbs and BNs in there. I wanna change the colour scheme abit.
  5. I was looking at Critter Kingdom the other day and they only had 1 male in stock. I decided not to buy him because it would be hard for me to find a female his size I think. Not too expensive too, was around $7, and he was about a 2-3 inches. Looked a bit pale though. So thats CK Blenheim, Animates Tower Junction and Organism which don't have Kribs. Grr, it seems that everytime I want to buy a fish it always is hard to find, but if I don't want them they are everywhere.
  6. Oh also, if I am unable to find some Kribs from the people here, I think I might just go get them from the pet shops. Do Kribs actually form pairs in the small tanks they keep them in the shops? I would like to get one pair if possible.
  7. I will. Thanks for the tip.
  8. Its 900x450x450, so it works out not that badly I would think. Reasonably planted too.
  9. Thanks for the info. Now to find some people in Chch to sell me some Kribs (hint hint). 8)
  10. Sweet, I just got a few questions about Kribs then: 1. How do they pair up? Do I have to get a school of them and let them choose like discus or will a male and female in the tank just pair up by themselves? 2. How long do they take to reach maturity? 3. At around what size can their sex be determined? I've been looking around Google for answers, but they don't really answer these questions.
  11. Was thinking of putting a Krib pair in the tank. Assuming I put enough caves for everyone, would both fishes be happy? Also, tank mates are mostly Swordtails, BNs, Tiger Barbs and some Angels. I don't think the Kribs will harrass the rest of the fish too much, but I'm assuming the "big fish eat small fish" rule applies here. At the moment, my BNs actually don't use the caves at all, and I have no idea where they hide. (Seriously, I've got like 3 pipes in there and they don't use them at all). So I think they won't fight each other for caves. Suggestions and thoughts people?
  12. I guess so heh. Will put more in to give him a selection Pets I had, children ... thankfully not yet.
  13. Yes, I just went searching around for him, looking closely at each side of the tank. I THINK I saw him hiding under the driftwood, just as smidey said. I just wonder why he isn't using any of the caves I put in for him.
  14. There's a bamboo pipe in there but no one uses it, not even the females. I've tried dimming the lights and putting out some food but only the females respond. It's weird really. Any other suggestions before I pull out the driftwood to search for him? Out of the 3 males in the tank, I've only recovered 1 body ... hmm.
  15. It's been 2 weeks now that I've added a new male BN to my tank after my main male died. However, I've never seen him at all during the past 2 weeks! Its like he just disappeared. The tank isn't heavily planted, it just has a piece of driftwood in it. I'm getting worried, I've lost 3 males in this tank so far, but the 2 females in it are getting along just fine. Unless its the females that are driving the males to suicide .. :-?
  16. I was originally going for a sump because I could make it cheaply, as I have the materials sitting around in the house. If the pump is gonna cost more than $100, I might as well get a CF1200. What would you guys recommend to a guy on a budget? Continue making the sump or just get the CF1200?
  17. How's this then? http://www.trademe.co.nz/Home-living/Ou ... 073114.htm
  18. Dohhh, that was silly of me. http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing ... ermanent=0
  19. Before I forget, will this pump be powerful enough? This setup is going to be used on a 900x450x450 tank.
  20. I see what you mean. Perhaps instead of putting just a pipe into the water, I will put a T junction to the end of it, and stick a couple of pipes with holes in it onto the ends. Would that work?
  21. Yes, that is what I am trying to replicate. The only one here in New Zealand costs around 100 dollars, which is why I plan to build my own.
  22. Yes, that is EXACTLY what I had in mind. My MS Paint skills aren't as good as they should be. But that should work right? I will also probably insert some sort of cover to stop my fish from getting too curious about that pipe.
  23. Duhhh, I just realized this would be better suited in the DIY section. Could someone move it please?
  24. Would this setup work? I don't really want to pay over 100 dollars for a simple piece of bent plastic, and this is a rough picture of what I plan to do. Thoughts and comments?
