  1. Interesting. I took out the top part, turned it upside down and turned the filter on and the fan wasn't moving. (I assume that was the fan I was looking at). Yet I know the filter works because I could feel the water pressure going against my hand when the filter is turned on. Whats going on? Edit - Sorry, I was looking at the wrong thing. Yes, the impellor is working and it's the one making the noise. How can I get to it and fix it?
  2. Ok, I'm gonna go take a look at it again. I REALLY hate taking apart the filter though, water flies everywhere. Will be back in 5 minutes.
  3. Whats an impellor? I was testing it out just now and I took everything out, and just let it run without water and it still made the noise.
  4. My CF1200 is making REALLY loud noises when running. Seems to me like there might be something clogging the motor, but I can't seem to find a way to open it up. Any ideas anyone?
  5. I have got 2 pairs of Kribs breeding in my tank, one after the other. I have got other fish like Swordtails, Neons and Guppies in there. Now, both pairs seemed to have got the spawning thing right, as they both have successfully laid eggs and hatched them. I have been keeping an eye out for one pair which had their fry for about 3 weeks beforehand. Now, one day, the fry has all disappeared. I assume their parents must have chased them away as they are quite big now (about 1cm each). However, due to the other fish in the tank, I knew those fry won't be long lived. So when do I separate them from their parents? And what would be the best way? A hose?
  6. Hey there, I was more worried of stressing the parents, as I do not want them to eat their second batch (I think the first batch was eaten by them, one day they just disappeared) . I'll just do a quick clean then. Thanks.
  7. Both pairs of my Kribs have babies at the moment. They are around 1cm at the moment, and each pair has at least 10 each. Should I wait longer till they are a bit older before I clean up? I have not been taking good care of my tank recently, I'm too busy with Uni, work and other stuff.
  8. I think the female isn't ready yet, and her fins are getting a little torn so I tossed her into the community tank to fatten up a little. The first thing she did when released was to chase the neons in there.
  9. Cool stuff, it's fairly certain that it's a she then. I just removed the divider and saw her adopting the "head-down" pose with her tail all clamped. And the male seems to have no idea what to do after that.
  10. Some pictures: This was taken with the aid of a small table lamp. Seems like a he under the light.
  11. Thats having me scratching my head though. When seperated, the "female" actually colors up and suspiciously looks like a young male. I just caught "her" flaring at my male. I bought "her" about 2-3 weeks ago from Redwoods, and was thinking of keeping "her" for a few more weeks to confirm that it is indeed a she. If it turns out to be a he, do you think I could trade it back for a real female?
  12. Also, I just noticed the male's bubble nest doubled in size.
  13. It's a male. I know that male bettas tend to attack anything that might be prettier than them, so I assumed that if the female betta attacked the guppy it might be a male. Day 2 since they have been in a tank with a divider, and the male is still quite aggressive. The "female" seems quite calm and not responding to any of the males flares. Normal behavior?
  14. I reckon that it might be a female too, but what surprised me was when I found the guppy with the torn tail. I thought female bettas were peaceful fish.
  15. Actually, he was in the tank before the female, and has already built a huge nest. I'm just concerned that the "she" may be a "he". I'll try to get a picture of her later. But her vertical bars are light colored, compared to the rest of her body. Weird.
  16. The thing is, she's quite young compared to my male, and quite average too. Not underfed thin or fat with eggs, just average. I temporarily took the divider out and the male just went berserk. He just chased the female around but not really nipping or anything. I've now put the divider back just to make sure they don't kill each other during the night.
  17. I've just put them in a tank with a see through divider in it and she now has vertical bars. What does that mean?
  18. I recently bought a female Betta and left here in my guppy tank to fatten up before attempting to mate her with my male. After a few days, I noticed that the fins of my guppies are quite torn, and "she" is starting to colour up a bit. Not only that she has quite visible horizontal bars. Is she a he?
  19. Why go for big fish? Just fill it up with guppies.
  20. Redwood. They had quite a few over there. Was 13 for a larger female and 8 for the a small one.
  21. Bought a girl for him just now. She's still quite small so I'll have to fatten her up abit. I've put them in the same tank with a divider in the middle. Even though I am not going to try to breed them just yet will this be fine? The barrier is transparent and I can hear him ramming the barrier.
  22. Through the Java Moss. Every so often, they did turn around and start pecking at the leaves. Usually the biggest Krib in the tank would follow behind them and start pecking at the Java Moss too. Are they spawning? These guys are pretty much adults now, and I'm fairly certain I have at least 1 male and 2 females.
  23. Hm, after I posted my message I left the mirror there while I went and had something to eat. I came back to see him finally flaring. Awesome stuff. I think that he gets scared when I put the mirror down near the tank, cause he assumes that I'm gonna net him out of it. Try leaving it there for a while.
  24. I have left mirrors near him before, but he just ignores it. He either is too cool to fight or just scared of his own reflection.
