How big do they get?

hmmmm what size marine tank could one set up for $1m US???

So is it a good critter, or a bad one? I don't fancy trying to find them all and fish them out!

Our HOB AquaClear isn't too noisy, as long as you keep the water level up, you don't get the waterfall effect - and the corresponding 'I have to go to the loo every five minutes' problem.

I don't want any monsters in my tank!! I'm having enough trouble with my Maroon trying to 'monster' our new BTA. Poor thing, we've only had it a few days, and the Maroon won't stop wriggling around in it, even when the lights are off - it's almost obscene! Just as well the Maroon is only little. Today it must have had enough, after lunch it sucked itself up and hid under a rock, only to have the Maroon in under there sideways still trying to rub itself in it, and yanking at it's tenticles trying to get it out! Now it has gone around the back of the tank and opened up where we can't see it... Grrr

Canon S2 IS Has super macro that will take a photo of something that touches the lens - none of this 150mm away from the subject stuff. Oh, and Photoshop, take photos in Superfine and Large format, then crop them in Photoshop so that the critter isn't something like 36,000 pixels to 5 million pixels of water! In saying that, though the camera is not manual enough for me, just a souped up point and click.... I want a digital SLR!!!!

They hatched on 8 May Shiuh. They should probably be bigger, but I am very naughty and they don't get as many water changes as they should, and man, can they poop!!

We have a few of these in our tank, they seem to drift around and occasionally settle on the bottom or stick onto the glass. This one is about 2mm across, less dangly bits. They have a 'leg' and 'body' arrangement similar to the Lunar Lander (circa 1969) ie, all feet on the ground, legs pointing upwards, then hinging at the top and then going back down to base of body in the centre, body points upwards. But it sounds more justifiable to be spending around $150 per week over a couple of years to set up a tank, than splash out $15,000 in one go... And imagine the logistics of shifting it all in one go, as well.

I see the Tunze Nanostream has 'a fish care function in case of motor stall'. Since the intake is spherical, does this mean your fish has to wrap around it totally before it stalls?

Yep Caper, they are more shallow in the body. Licorice Gourami are a similar shape too, but I haven't seen any around for a while, and they are more fussy about their water conditions.

Nah, Wok, you keep you blue pills for yourself. My Dwarf Gourami certainly don't need any! If you are heading this way in October, I will have some Dwarf Gourami ready to go, if you are interested.

And then imagine it getting stuck on your stream! My four-year-old called it 'a under spider water fish'

Sorry to hijack your thread, Sparky, but I have a tank that has been set up for twelve days with live rock that has been taken out of another tank which has been running for quite a while. It was kept out of water, but was still damp. I didn't test the ammonia until it had been going for seven days, and it was zero then. At the moment when tested we have Ammonia 0, Nitrite 0, Nitrate 10. Has this cycled in such a short amount of time?

I only have the four in total, Wok! But if I manage to breed any more, I will let you know.

The back of the tank has Ambulia and Java Moss all the way up to the top, and there is a patch of Riccia on the surface to keep Mr Bossy Dwarf Gourami occupied. So, plenty of places to hide, from me and the gannet tetras!

What are acceptable levels of Nitrate before you start stocking the tank? And what should one stock it with first?

Here's a site for you http://badmanstropicalfish.com/brackish/brackish.html Wetpets have some brackish fish for sale sometimes, Puffers and Archerfish. But do your homework, some need to be converted to full marine as they mature, and puffers will try and eat or nip other inhabitants.

Sounds pretty sus to me, either a sneaky sales tactic, or she was just too damned lazy to write it up again. I'd go for the former, and if you did get the wine, would it be worth $80.00, or $8.00?

You don't want to know how many pics are in the trash of my computer trying to get these two! As it is, I still don't have a clear one of Jr yet, and I was sitting in front of the tank with the camera for ages. Mr bossy Dwarf Gourami either chases everyone around, or sits right in front of the camera! Colours are a bit out, and you can't see the lovely sparkly blue of their eyes and fins.

Whilst staring at my community tank today, contemplating what to prune out of it, this little fella swam by. (Sorry, fuzzy photo, camera focused on the heater knob. Male in front, Jr behind, and Mr 'I want to be in every photo' DG in the back.) I thought, heck one of my Sparkling Gourami has shrunk! But after a count up, there are not three, but four. So... a couple of them have been busy in the - ahem... lush undergrowth? More like rampant jungle, complete with hair algae. No wonder the little guy survived in the tank to get this big. This is Mum, trying to entice one of the males, doesn't he look soo attentive??
