Can you change the type of lighting setting on the camera? On my Canon you can choose between Tungsten, Fluorescent and Fluorescent H, plus the usual AWB, Daylight etc. I find that for my tank Fluorescent H works best (PC Blues and 150w MH). If I use the flash everything looks washed out, the other settings make everything look blue.
  2. ooopps.. missed out the 'A'
  3. ROFLMO! Welcome Shroo.

Girls are probably less attracted to the amount of time and money you guys put into your tanks!
  5. Hi, and welcome Yay... another small tank person! I have a 105l tank - I don't know if this size qualifies for a Nano. Good idea getting the partner interested, these things suck money faster than a vacuum cleaner!

With all those fragile looking arms and legs and 'whiskers', as my daughter calls them, I'd back the Clown to win as well!
  8. Hey SpidersWeb, if you were a snail in an Oscar tank, you'd hide in the filter too!! We always get dead snail bodies in the bottom of the HOB filter, the trumpet ones. We've now also got these ones Can snails crossbreed? Or do Ramshorns start out this colour?
  9. Bumblebee Gobys can be brackish, and you can acclimatise Mollies to brackish apparently. You can get Greenspotted and Figure Eight Puffers, but I think they have to go full Marine later in life. You can also get Freshwater Puffers, the LFS had some that looked pretty cute, but I think they will munch anything that passes by, including fish, as will the other puffers mentioned. Info here http://badmanstropicalfish.com/brackish/brackish.html 22l is probably a bit small for puffers, considering 10 US Gallons is 37 litres.

  16. Great to meet you, Fishkeepa. Hope you had a good trip home and your Gourami are all happy.
  17. Depends if he is talking US or Imperial gallons 1 US Gallon = 3.78l 150 US Gallons = 567l 1 Imperial Gallon = 4.54l 150 Imperial Gallons = 681l
  18. Power Factor Correction is probably not an issue if you only have a few Fluorescent fittings, and don't pay for your power on peak demand. If, on the other hand you have a humungous fish room with several thousand fittings switching on at once, it could be a concern. Domestic users do not normally pay by peak, but your power provider probably does. Most power providers like to see PFC at around .9, and will penalise larger consumers (ie industrial consumers) for being lower by charging them more. The lower your PF, the more power is consumed. It's all about VoltAmps and Watts. This is dredging through long distant and easily forgotten theory in my brain, and I hate maths, so it's a rough outline of what PFC is about.
  19. Could you use a Peltier unit? There was a thread on it (p)ages ago. Since the tanks are so small, is it a viable option? A couple of years ago we bought a Peltier chilly bin for the car, it cost an arm and a leg, then a couple of months later we see them in Countdown, of all places, for something like $29.95.. grrr Anyway, could you just mount the fan and heatsink unit above the tank, or is this cooling of the surface not sufficent? Would it be better to run some sort of exchange system, say with pvc tubing threaded through the heatsink and pumped through the tank?
  20. Wait until the Kingfisher gets one of your fish and bashes it to death on your washing! They used to do that to our clothes line with mice!
