  1. Plant the Ambulia in front of it - and the heater! Nice tank, btw.
  2. Dare we ask what sickness you have?
  3. I have stripped down my 400mm cube tank because it had become overgrown with some slimy floaty green algae and Utricularia. Ask Jim r, he saw it looked like some surreal haunted wonderland, anyway, I digress. I am going to set this up as a Niger river biotope for my normani. Ideal parameters are: Ph: 6.9 - 7.2 dH: 3 - 8 temp: 24 - 27 deg C Slight water movement and muted lighting. Plants will be: Foreground - Eleocharis acicularis Midground on driftwood - Bolbitis heudelotii, Anubias barteri var. nana and Anubias barteri var. nana 'Petite' Background - Vallisneria - if I can find it in the back of my com tank Substrate: JBL AquaBasis Small grey gravel The pics: Front substrate Side view of substrate Existing Fluval 104 and driftwood ticking over in my killie sump The Chief Building Inspector - had to put the light back on overnight incase she used it for a litter box!

    Suicide guppies!

Maybe it is the waving around of sharp kitchen utensils that is causing this? Or perhaps they think they are in a seafood restaurant, and when you are pointing them out to your friends and family, they think you are going pick them out of the tank and cook them for dinner?
  5. You really should attempt to clean the glass before taking pics, then the camera will focus on the fish, rather than the watermarks...
  6. I found the best way to keep stargrass was when it got near the top of the tank I would pull it out, or chop it off at gravel level, cut the stems in half and replant the tops by laying the stems on the gravel and sitting a rock on the bottom of the stems, then it looks good all of the time. If you just prune it it looks horrid for a while, then it just branches out where you chopped it and looks top heavy and the bottoms go black from lack of light as Alanmin says.
  7. No problems, PP The infamous Rusty Ru can be seen here - viewtopic.php?f=17&t=37793&start=0
  8. Now, now Sam, just because it took you ages to work out that the red writing in the orange box at the top of this forum was not put there just for you because you thought you had done something wrong!
  9. Hmm, reminds me of the book The Swarm - now, who did i lend that to... I will have to repossess it and send it to anyone who wants to read it.
  10. Hi PP, and welcome to the forums. I have fixed the typo in your name as requested.
  11. Looks like what I refer to as gold, some call them blonde - I have a tank full of them, some with the high dorsal fin.
  12. *runs off and hides orange guppies* But they are red, honestly!
  13. Just interested because I have some with double tail males that you can have if you are working on a particular strain, all I wanted to know if we are talking about the same thing!
  14. What do you class as a delta tail, Nav? Pics would be good - sorry Vinson, not trying to hijack your thread, honest!

    I've come back

Hi Shelley - and welcome back, good luck with the Golden Bristlenose hunt!
  16. Oh stop it Wok, you are making me hungry..... Jook and 1000yr old eggs, mmmmmmmm....... Anyway, they are easy to peel, even if they are green inside!
  17. The round end, where the air gap is, but this only stops them cracking when you boil them. As Caryl says, it is the price you have to pay for having fresh eggs! We try to get a bit of the shell off then get an appropriately sized dessert spoon between the shell and egg and try and dig them out this way by going around the shell. The Chinese do a salted duck egg, which you boil on top of the rice, these are nigh on impossible to peel, and you have to resort to chopping it in half length wise with a chopper and then getting the dessert spoon in there to get them out - before you eat them you have to spend some time getting the little bits of shell off them, nothing spoils a good egg like biting down on a bit of shell!
  18. Yup, I can recommend using a bit of air line hose - some killifish keepers also recommend putting a fine net at the other end so that you can put the live fry back into the tank if they inadvertently get sucked up.
  19. How much is a new gas fire, and since yours is an old dunger, are the new ones more efficient or not?
  20. I was just discussing this with one of my colleagues, and he also said that since the pellet fires are not just normal fire box and has moving and electrical parts, such as the thermostats, the hopper and screw mechanism that deliver the pellets to the firebox etc, that at some stage these bits may need repairs/maintenance as well.
  21. Ahahahaahahaaaa.... It would make men a hell of a lot more careful! Sorry, I will be quiet now...
  22. Forgot about God save the Queen! - but then we had intermission at the movies as well, and the poor kids with the ice cream tray thingys strapped over their shoulders standing in the centre aisle of the picture theatre - those were the days when they only played one movie at a time for a few weeks and the signage advertising the movie over the door was hand painted. And you could buy Jaffas or Snifters.
  23. Calm down, Phoenix, I am sure it is just a figure of speech! Ha! I remember the money for empties thing, talk about getting people to recycle, mind you some of the bottles were looking pretty ratty after a while. I also remember that we couldn't get Fanta for ages either for some reason, the supply was pretty sporadic. We used to go to the milk treatment station and get the offcuts from the foil bottle tops and use them for things like decorating floats for the blossom parade, and hanging over the strawberries to try and keep the birds off them. I think we should make our own un-American-ised list of 25 Kiwi things.
