  1. Sam was in charge of finding a replacement for that one since he hates it so much, you were supposed to find me the one running around in circles waving its arms around...
  2. Stop winding him up, Phoenix... Do you want him to be responsible for locking the thread because of his own comments?
  3. You should have been asleep, Sam! And don't give me the line that teenagers are nocturnal, either....

    DIY Metal Halide?

Argh, painted on ears! You could try and utilise the heat for the tank in winter, but in summer you will have the problem of trying to get rid of the excess heat, sometimes necessitating the need for a chiller.

    DIY Metal Halide?

You may be better going for a smaller wattage MH and a Diamond Style Lumenarc reflector, which would give you a better distribution of light for the shape of your tank. http://www.lumenarclighting.com/ And if you are interested in going marine: http://www.advancedaquarist.com/issues/ ... eature.htm How's your metalwork skills - I have seen these made by hand before.
  6. Use the search function, and all your questions shall be answered!
  7. *puts hand up beside mouth to shield it from Sam's view and whispers* Hey Phoenix, I am getting worried about Sam, he thinks his empty tank is looking at him
  8. I would not have the pump sucking out of the top tank, just let it overflow into the sump, and use the pump as a return.
  9. Ahh, teenagers - not renowned for listening or reading, as you know Barrie For a moment there I thought we would have to post a video on how to do it for him, but hopefully he's got the idea now, either that or he has no fingers left and cannot post anymore!
  10. You should try working with this!!!
  11. If your connection is too slow, sometimes the upload fails, what upload speed you getting? Are you using a wireless router, or a network cable or dial-up? Our router spat the dummy a while back and we had to get a new one, gave us pathetic upload speed and I couldn't attach anything. Try www.speedtest.net and let us know. Ohh, is that a little me I see in your avatar - I have gone pink?
  12. You try explaining that to the cat - you know the saying, dogs have owners, cats have staff. A Flemmish Giant, maybe, a common old garden bunny even when fully grown, I think not. Our cat used to drag them home and eat them head first. Mind you, it would be good to see Livingart sitting the cat down and explaining the hierarchy of the household to it, reminds me of the Eddie Izzard thing about cats and dogs.
  13. But never underestimate how large a bunny's head can be for a cat to fit it in it's mouth...
  14. See in the second pic where the side is slightly lower than the front and the silicone is thicker, if you have the thin blade, slide it in there parallel to the bracing (as in the blade is horizontal). Wait until you get the thinner blade not your craft knife, it is too thick and will get stuck. What you want is a blade thin enough to slip between the two layers of glass and go through the silicone. As Barrie suggested, get two, because one usually gets jammed, so use it as a wedge and carry on with the other one.
  15. A pic would be good... Is the bracing siting on top of the front and back, or is it inside the tank and down a bit from the top, or is it laying flat along the sides and stuck on with a ton of silicone? Don't make me have to draw some pictures...
  16. Yup, bottled food grade, via a ceramic diffuser.
  17. Shhh... don't talk about Livingart like that...
  18. Like this one? http://www.fullam.com/images/tools/526601.jpg
  19. I suspect it is too much light, I will have to check the iron levels, as I do not think there is enough for the amount of light there is. The cat is spoilt - this is what happens when you take your husband to the LPS to look at fish - you end up with a cat tent!
  20. How thick is the silicone between the brace and the tank? If there is stuff all gap in between the side of the tank and the brace, there is no way you will get a manky old craft knife blade between it, is there? I will ask Barrie for you what is the best thing for getting the brace off. You can get the Wilkinson blades from the supermarket, but they are something like $18.00 for a pack of ten
  21. What sort of blade are you using? I use a Wilkinson Sword Classic double edged one, it's really thin and flexible and good for slicing your fingers if you are not careful. Hang on, you are probably too young to know what I am on about? They look like this http://westcoastshaving.com/images/dorcost300_600.jpg
  22. Sounds like you have had a fun day! I was just looking at your sketchup, you may want to have the brackets for the lights higher otherwise when you want to do some tank maintenance the lights are going to get in the way. Make the suspension wires longer so that you can either swing it out of the way and hook it to something while you are working - or in your case, causing havoc and destruction with a net - or so that you can raise it up on some sort of pulley system. Got any pics of this bracing you can't deal to?
  23. Ok, updated pic. The Bolbitis heudelotii decided to have a sulk and died back, it has been shifted under the left hand bit of driftwood and is starting to sprout some new leaves. Eleocharis acicularis is slowly spreading around. The moss is not strictly the right stuff for the biotope, but the fish gotta have somewhere to get up to mischief in There are a squillion snails that will have to be moved, but helped with keeping the various stages of algae growth managable, there is still one sort of algae in there, and I should have been taking pics of the others as they came and went just to show you all that a tank with this sort of lighting just doesn't go from setup to looking neat and tidy overnight. You can try and count the little blue eyes if you like, there are six adults and more than double that number of fry.
